As a young undergraduate from a tier 1 college, how do I break into in the strategy consulting arms of big 4 or MBB. I am keen to work in the front end office rather than the capability centers. Experienced colleagues it would great if you could share an insight about this. McKinsey & Company McKinsey & Company EY-Parthenon Bain & Company
Starting soon at McK as an undergraduate hire, is it normal/inoffensive to state to my DLG that I’d be interested in pursuing relatively expeditious promotion timelines and am willing to do the work to achieve that goal? Or will it come off as arrogant/foolhardy (happy to hear from all MBB because I am guessing it might be similar)?McKinsey & Company Bain & Company Boston Consulting Group

Yes. Big4 is promoting to managers in 3 years? That’s fast…
You went from C->M in 2 years at your current firm? That's insane! How did you negotiate the accelerated promo?
There is nothing you can do about how people perceive the value of a big 4 mgr title on the outside. Just live your best life Personally I disregard that info when I interview someone and let the results of their interview do the talking. The downside comes when people have a specific title at their previous company that does not get replicated at their new company.
Obviously....but open ended questions are amazing for gathering insight. The interviewers (over here) talk all the time about how easy it is to spot someone that is a master at their craft vs someone that only knows something topically but speaks really well. Tl/Dr - you can learn a lot from great interview questions

I was fast tracked to Manager. I would say it’s a mix. There are at times auto screening questions on applications that will ask you for your YOE. Unfortunately if you meet the qualifications and you have the title you’ll get auto rejected because you are truthful and put down your YOE and the job required couple more years thinking that’s what most managers YOE are. But like others have said don’t let it ruin/not trying. Also once you get a solid year or two under belt as a manager you should be fine. Also network and get referrals those will help as well to at least get foot in the door.
