She wanted one that was 10k. Way too rich for my blood, but then I started thinking of it more as a long term investment. Her family has wealth that we will come into (and are very generous already), so if we started this thing out on the right foot I’m sure I’ll reap monetary benefits in the future. So 10k it was. I plan on this working out for life, so if it doesn’t maybe I’m a bad investor

Why do people care so much about what others think? I don't understand the status symbol thing either. Buy something that you think appropriately shows your love for her.

My income is $300k and my fiancé’s is $400k. We live in SF and our combined NW will hit $1mil by end of year. We agreed he wouldn’t spend more than $500 on my ring, mostly bc I showed him how much diamonds are a true ripoff. Got a gorgeous forever-lasting gold ring with a precious gem that isn’t diamond and absolutely love it. Idk, think about the box is my suggestion. Traditional guidance is idiotic.

Just seeing this @ Director 6. We’re both 28 and just started making this much 1.5-2 years ago. So doing pretty well at almost 1M 😛 we max out our 401ks and invest ~ 60-70% of our post tax income.

It's all about your future spouse. I don't like grandiose jewelry and would have been upset if I had recieved something giant just because some rule of thumb to spend $xxx amount. Mine is simplistic but unique, and I love that my spouse picked it for me and with me in mind.

I also am not a huge spender, so would have viewed it as irresponsible if he put himself in the hole, for a piece of jewelry. But many women do like grandiose and don't mind the expense. Trust what you know about your SO.

If it’s purely a financial decision do t get married

I've been told that a lot of women like to be old fashioned when it comes to these kind of things. So I kept it classy by asking for a a standard Dowry. You could say I was keeping it old school. 🙃

3 years salary

30M,150K salary and spent 7k for a 1.1 carat diamond natural ring. I had a conversation with my gf about budget and we spent some time at a jeweler to look at rings/settings so I can get her a feel of her preference. Then I went on James Allen and RareCarat.com to find worth of a stone via GIA number. Ultimately bought it from a store and paid less than it’s worth so I felt I got a deal.

Let’s talk about the ring itself. The clarity (VS), cut , color (D-color) and carat weight (not total weight [T.W]). This is what matters, not the price. Lol trust me. And if all else fails, I’ll take it

Start with a relatively simplistic ring. Then once your setup on a house and all the actual important stuff, you get a secondary piece that combines with the original ring to give it more diamonds and flair. That's what my parents did

I personally, as the woman, dont want anything more than 2K since i personally think the money can be used better in other places 🤷🏻‍♀️
For context we collectively make a little over $250K

My partner and I bought our home back in 2020. We got a good deal, low rate. But we want to move into a more spacious SFH. However, as we all know this market is crazy. Everything we want costs $620k+ and bc of rates it makes our mortgage estimates $3500+. We are currently paying $2k. And it looks we need to sell the house simultaneously as look for a new one or our contingency isn’t as attractive. I know it’s based on personal circumstances. But what would you do? - not move, sell and buy?

General Question I started tuition reimbursement last year in August. I since have an interview with another job that is paying a lot more. You know how you apply to something not really thinking that job would call back? Should I get an offer, what do I do about tuition Reimbursement? Do they send a check and tell me to pay it? Do they take it out of my 401k? I know a lot of people will say I never shouldve applied but I didn't think too much about actually get a call back when I applied.

Interesting investment opportunity with PSTH. Biggest SPAC with Tontine warrants. In short, for every 9 common shares you buy and hold through the merger, you get 2 shares priced at $23. The price right now is $26. I would get in and gradually increase by a multiple of 9 and hold until at least Dec 2021

Is it a bad idea to refinance with a line of credit vs a regular student loan refinancing?

It’s pretty much free there, I have 0 Student loan debt. With that in mind, a 529 would not be super helpful if we go that route. Should I consider other options? Do you have suggestions? Thanks so much!
