@OP, always depends on your own performance. I know people that got promoted with a 3. A lot also depends on how good a year the company is having. Supply and demand
Fyi, we just finished mid years and the entire rank was laddered/discussed together. There are no performance criteria based on year, just based on rank.
4 and 5 make up around 40% of the reviews. So, a lot.
Do Senior 1s only get compared to other Senior 1s? Or is it the entire pool?
I believe ratings are at year level. So senior 3's are compared to other senior 3's. I've seen around 50% of the senior 3 pool get promoted every year. If 40% get 4's and 5's and are not promoted then a lot of senior 3's with a 3 rating are getting promoted over seniors with a higher rating.
The entire pool for a rank gets laddered within the practice. Top 15% are 5, next 25% are 4, then the rest are 3s. 1s and 2s are given out as needed for the most part. Getting promoted is about being ready for the next level and having support of the next level in your practice. Most of the time promotes are 5s, especially at the higher ranks. It's possible to get a 3 and get promoted, but I've never seen it. A 3 means your average at your current level. Hard to imagine promoting someone that isn't already performing above their current rank
Finished mid years? Reviews arnt due till end of month for us.
It's safe to assume that someone that starts their career with the company is promoted no matter what. It gets even more convoluted when you factor in alignments to campaigns and practices that are in demand.
EY3, that is not true. At least not in my practice. Maybe for staff to senior, but that's where it ends. We have plenty of S5s and M5s that are not getting promoted.
@ey1 Thanks! Very helpful.
Yeah I think you're actually less likely to be promoted with a 4 or a 5 because they sometimes do it as a consolation prize, like you did well but you just need a little more experience so here's a 5 but no promo
Ey5, that sounds evil, I would be pissed to get a 3 on my promotion year, because it would mean a shit bonus/increase. I've never seen that done at ey or Accenture, and I'm a senior manager.
Ey4, yep, we wrapped it up this week. That doesn't mean all of the reviews are in, just means we've had on/off track for the practice. We're pretty self contained, so most of the leads are in our practice and on the roundtable call.
