How similar is recruiting to traditional sales work? For example I worked in property management/leasing and in retail for years and didn't care for it too much. I'm currently a recruiting coordinator and want to know how it compares to an average sales job. Thanks!

I’ve been in sales since I was 18 and took my first role in recruiting 4 years ago. The skills you would use for prospecting and taking rejection transfer over nicely. But in recruiting, it’s not a one and done sale. You don’t just grab a credit card or make a sale and then you’re done. You need to actually develop long term relationships because in recruiting the “sale” is constantly taking place. Each hour your employee works, you get paid. Or if they are direct placements, they have to actually get the job and stay there for a while to get paid.

Partners, how often do you use outside recruiters? I constantly get recruiters that hit me up saying they work with this partner or that director. Why would you outsource to these folks?

I'm a SWE from Italy. Love my country but salary and taxes here are outrageous. Got 2yrs experience in fullstack and data science, 2masters, a peer reviewed paper and outperform all my peers for 24k€ a year.

Have you got some advice? Is it possible to work for US remotely without visa? What other countries pay well? Is it possible to land a 100k$+ with this kind of experience and working from Italy?

Hi single parents! How do you cope with being the NOT preferred parent? They say a mom and son bond is unbreakable but my son always chooses his dad 🥲 no matter how hard I try for our relationship, he always misses his dad even if they spent the whole week together. Have you been fired before even starting your new job?

I signed for a new job two months ago and will start next month (3 mo notice period in Europe). They were very keen on getting me on-board ASAP before signing but since I signed the contract it has been silent from the new employee. I've emailed them with questions as I'll be re-locating to NL and it takes them 1-2 weeks to reply. Given all that's going on in the world, I'm worried they might fire me before I even start.
