Look at it this way, if the organization where you are currently at felt there was a need to lay you off this afternoon, they wouldn't hesitate. They would be making a decision that they thought was in the best interest of the company with little to no regard as to how it would look letting you go so soon after hire. So with that in mind, if you think this other opportunity is a better one, I would jump all over it.
I usually say, “stay until you’re no longer learning and/or no longer having fun.” That being said, if I was offered $75k more, I wouldn’t be having fun doing my current role knowing that I just passed on life changing money.
I would say take the offer! When you are the one that gets fired or redundant they don’t think twice
Something people have to learn…
The Corporation/Company is not your friend.
It will ALWAYS do what is in it’s best interest.
So…is this new role doing something you enjoy, the same, or is it a slog? Did you get a great ‘feel’ for the people in the new company?
Weigh those things out and if it’s worth $75k, take it ASAP. Odds are it will be, but def weigh pros/cons first…and ‘making people mad’ is in your head; if you explain to them it’s $75k more, good managers will say ‘jump’. Maybe they’ll counter?
Absolutely yes!!!! 75k?!
Go where values you the most!
That is a lot of money to leave on the table. Who cares if they hate you in the long run? You won't remember those people five years from now. I would go for it.
I would question why the other company took so long to get back to you - is this reflective of how working for them would be (slow decision making, red tape, etc) and also consider what your career path in both organizations look. If the new company is a place you can see yourself for 2+ years, make the jump! Keep in mind if you took a sign on bonus in your current role, you’d likely need to pay that back.
Make sure the new gig is secure before letting them know, but don’t feel bad for looking out for yourself.
And yes, you only get one of those quick in-and-outs. Otherwise, you’ll look like a career job seeker. But then again, if you’re only there 3 months, I wouldn’t even put the current gig on my resume.
Go for it… ask for your notice period, then accept the higher offer. Hopefully it’s a better place to be and the money counts.
if you aren't happy there, $75k is a darn good reason to leave. if it's a good fit, stay and it will take care of itself.
Was thinking this also. I recently took a new job and have not received the first paycheck yet and I am thinking of bouncing.
Honestly, I usually say stay for at least 6 months, but with that pay increase?! Go for it!
Would you walk past $75k lying in the street and not bend over to pick it up?
Make sure the new position is secure, put your notice in, and tell them thanks for the experience.
Doesn’t matter if it was 3 months, 3 years, or 3 days.
Go! That’s a lot of money.
Go for it!
What do you do? And what company lol asking for a friend ;) I would leave, I have learned that companies do not want loyalty. Or if you really wanna stay talk to your boss and make it known you got a better offer if they can match?
75k more a year is significant. TAKE IT
Do what will make you happy and look out for yourself first. The other company would do the same thing to you in a heartbeat so don’t feel bad about it.
I understand you. I think we have a issue with loyalty, and worrying about what ppl think even when we probably wouldn't see those ppl again. But you need to do what's best for you. When you walk out that door and don't come back, no one is really thinking of you beyond the fact that you gave your supervisor more work.
However, is this a big pay jump?
If not, then you need to think about what are your benefits now vs what you know about the new job. Are you happy where you are now? Benefits package and pto (wlb)? Flexibility? Location? Cost of travel? Do you like your office prople and aesthetics? Do you have a desk/ cubicle/ office? All things you need to consider. I would say anything below a $5k difference you need to consider these questions.
$75k extra is a NO BRAINER. Take the money and move on with your life.
