I always heard raises were good in PA. Like, between 8-12%. Here I am, one of the top rated associates in my market according to my Partner, and I got a 6.3% raise. Is this normal?

The raises are not good. It's the consistency that's good. Industry doesn't offer annual raises

like

Given the state of the firms, I'd imagine this is going to be a slow year for raises. Firms have been having layoffs, future revenues are lower than they originally planned for. I'd be very surprised if raises weren't also lower this year.

Yes. You don't get much of a raise as an associate. Wait until senior.

like

All depends on company/LOS/office performance. Can't give 10% raises if revenue is down and costs are up #math

like

What was your rating OP? Was your starting salary high, or at least above average for a first year? I got a 15% raise my first year, and was rated a 2. Fast forward 4 years later, last year when my utilization for the year was over 120% and I was an overwhelming 1 rating I only got a 7% raise, presumably because my raises in prior years were high and my salary was high already relative to my peer group and market.

like

^Private you make it up in bonuses. You get a 20% plus bump when you exit public. Promotions in private will still have significant bumps. Throw on top bonuses which can easily range over 20% and potential for stock options or ESOPs and the comp ends up being better than PA. You hear this myth a lot thrown around in PA that private raises suck, PA is so great, bla bla bla. Reality is comparable industry positions pay more than PA (specifically audit, advisory and other specialized services scale higher).

like

I got a 10% raise my first year with a tier 1 rating

Good to know. Thanks guys.

like

what is your line of service and location?

like

I'd take 6.3%, I bet put top raises thus year are 5-7%, I remember when raises were 10%+...

like

I was given a 7.2% while the vast majority of my class was 5.5%. Miami audit. Like everyone says, it depends on office, the office performance, col, service line etc.

like

Same tier as last year. 4% less of a raise. So I'd say raises weren't great this year

like

It won't. Down cycles typically last more than a year. Next year with ASC 606 coming down the pipeline, audit budgets will be stretched. The first year of the standard there will@be a shitload of time involved in testing it and the firms aren't going to be able to increase billings by that much. Every public company is likely going to have revenue testing go through national the first year of the standard. This coming on top of an already depressed outlook. Give it a few years to get back pumping again.

like

Stop focusing on %, focus on $. Obviously when you're at a lower salary it's easier to give a large % increase. Also your staff raise included a promotion bump (staff to senior), your raise as a senior does not include a change in rank.

like

6.3% sucks. I got a 9.1% raise my first year with an average rating. Second year I got a 18.3% raise with a high rating.

Audit; LA

Eh percentage doest say much. You might have started higher than other places with low COL. They same raise will look better % wise even if they still make less.

Audit wasn't as profitable this year....lots of margin pressure and raises are expected to be lower this year

That's a shitty raise for a tip raised person. Hopefully it'll even out next year.

Private is 1-3%. Even a shit raise in public is a great raise.

Hi All,
I am feeling lost in job. So I’ve applied for Accounts payable they offered 40k. I said why not to gain some experience. I didn’t even bother negotiating which I regret.
Fast forward I noticed that I was eventually handed everyone’s workload (AR & imports & duty and check coworker work + AP) Spoke to them about pay increase based on workload. So they raised it to 55k.. but I still feel underpaid based on the amt of work I do. I don’t know what my title or what to put on resume..

I feel like I was straight up lied to during the interview process. “lots of opportunities to hit quota”. I’m sitting here with only one demo two months after joining the company. it looks like our team has only two people doing demos, and demos are only happening once every two weeks. At this rate, I don’t think I’ll be even close to hitting OTE. Are there any other companies hiring right now? I’ll have a discussion about my concerns with my manager soon, but there’s too many red flags here.

I will join EY this June and just wondering if this is ok in terms of the independence rule. I guess the apartment will put my deposit in some sort of funds. Anyone with EY has experience?
