I am a second year associate and am considering a lateral move. I have an interview on Friday and a few more in the coming weeks… does anyone have advice on what are good questions to ask the firms during my interviews?

Size up the responsibilities of what a 2-3 year role is vs. your current role. You don’t want to be stuck in a place where you’re a 3rd-4th year doing what you did as a first year at your current place. Seek growth

I also asked the partners I would be working working for where they would slot me in on day one. For one firm, the answer was a deal breaker. For the other, it allowed me to see myself at the firm more.

Ask makes a good junior?

Sorry meant to type: "Ask what makes a junior great at your firm?"

“At what year do your associates typically get deposition experience?”

“How are cases typically staffed—free market or assignment system? How many attorneys/paralegals are typically on each case?”

“What is the typical caseload for associates?”

“Are there formal practice groups?”

I had a panel interview two weeks ago. I sent the recruiter a status check email last Friday and haven't heard back. I'm really interested in this company and still see the role posted on their site. I'd like to send another email today (to the hiring mgr and recruiter) reiterating my interest along with a list of references. Thoughts on sending the references without them asking? I don't do well with panel interviews and I'm hoping they look past that and check my references.

I need suggestions. I have 2 years of experience in IT as ASE. I am getting calls when I apply for the job opportunity from MNC but being a fresher and not having any experience in the Design field, they do not proceed with the hiring process. I have done Masters in Design (2021 passout)
Any suggestions would help how I can get into a good paying company as a fresher in Design.

This job is a lot better if you don't care about the bonus and hours requirement. I can pretty easily bill 1700 hours annually and my firm so far hasn't cared in the slightest. That's seemingly just the nature of working in Biglaw.

But every day you have the option to buy back your time.

How do you buy back time?

It's simple—by saving and investing.

And you don't need to be uber wealthy to regain control of your time.

I lateraled from a small firm to regional big law last year. I was told that my offer was commensurate with class year (5th year). The firm recently increased first year salary, with a 5% increase for all other attorneys. My original salary was equal to the new first year salary. The difference between my new salary and a first year is now $10k. I think it is fairly obvious that the hiring partner was not truthful with me. How would you address this? Is another lateral move my only option?

Serious billing question - if during the course of the day, you first receive an email from Client A at say 11:10am and you read it, you then respond to it at 12:20pm. You get another email at 2pm from Client A and respond immediately. The next email comes in at 4pm, you read it and respond only at 4:30pm. None of the email responses take more than 3-5mins. You are working on matters for other clients at all other times during the day. How much are you billing for Client A?

Should I complain to a firm's HR if the interviewers laughed at my answer during an interview? Maybe it sounded scripted but it was still heartfelt and genuine: my immigration story and how that made me appreciate the rule of law. I said it soo many times during OCI's that maybe it eventually sounded robotic, but for the interviewers to laugh and one to say sarcastically "nice elevator pitch", I thought was rude. Thoughts?
