Well that’s balls! I feel for you.
Have you said anything? I strongly encourage that you do. It may not change much if you’re more valuable to them on new biz than he would be, but at least they’ll know for next time. If they’re smart, they’ll find other ways to make sticking around worth your while (wouldn’t it be nice to get promoted with an even fatter raise??)
Otherwise, it’s a misogynist’s world and you should look elsewhere. Never lower your value. You got dis! 💫

Here’s the kicker…I asked to be removed from business development upon my return from maternity leave. I’ll have a toddler and a newborn and our president is impossible to deal with….need to keep my sanity ha.
My boss said we can make that work because I have “earned my portfolio.” This was before we were put up for review though. This GAD will also be taking over my role on business development in his transition.
I work for a female owned agency with a lot of female leadership…so I really think this comes from a place of them trying to save this guy. He’s great…super like-able…good at his job, etc…it just sucks that I’m on the shitty end of the deal here…other than getting removed from new business to save my mental health 😂.

Basically…the scope that I worked hard to earn will no longer be mine to lead like I was hoping.
Also…I am going to go on maternity leave in September so this would totally make sense for my coverage however, I don’t think the situation will be changing upon my return in January.
Anyway…what would you do? I can’t decide if it is worth it to communicate to my boss what bullshit this is…or if I should just plan on interviewing while on maternity…or if I should just wait it out to see what happens in January.
Also…this GAD was only promoted from an AD about a year ago…but while I think he’s smart…seniority-wise I feel like him and I are in the same boat. Or at least a very close boat ha.
Also, also…I do not have a GAD because my GAD was promoted to the ET and I still report into her. I have basically been doing the role of the GAD for the past year and a half (without the title) while also working in business development
Two things. If you respect this other GAD and your boss then look for the silver lining and then talk to both of them about your goals.
Tell your boss you are thrilled that the agency can keep the GAD and you understand the business decision but it stung a little because of the business you’ve cultivated. Be clear you’d also like to throw your name in the ring for a future GAD role.
Ultimately when you come back, having someone at his level may take a lot of pressure off you when easing back in from maternity. Prior to going on leave be sure the GAD knows you are there to help set him up for success… once you return and have a better grasp on what you are looking for, sit down with the GAD and come up with a game plan to get you to that level.
