I am filling out a form for a background check for a new job and the form is asking for my social insurance number. It says it’s not mandatory to provide it but can expedite the process. Should I provide it? Why should I/should I not provide it?

Do not share your social security number, you do not need complete number to do any sort of financial checks, Last 4 digits are good enough. If not mandatory never share your number with anyone. Unless you are officially on company payroll

Background checks do take a long time otherwise. Check that the company hiring is reputable, and the background check company never had security breaches.

I never do.
I provide SIN only in the documents where it is mandatory.

Hey fishes, can someone tell me how the 80c bracket works, i know i can get exempt upto 1.5lakh under it, what i wanna know is does PF comes under it or not? For example if my yearly pf deduction is 20k and VPF is 10k so now will i still be able to show investment of 1.5lakh under 80c apart from PF and VPF or i'll be able to get exemption on only 1.2 lakh( 1.5lakh-30k= 1.2lakh)?

Thank you in advance!!

Need some advice. Currently 32 YO with $23.7k in student loans, $60k in retirement, and $54k in cash. Want to pay off loans by end of year, max out 401k, and save for a house. Does it make sense to use $10k from pension to pay down loans and the rest from cash? How much should I have in my 401k by this point?

With interest rates between 6.5% and 7.5%, it is safe to say that buyers are slowing down in their search.

I am a real estate agent who is in the process of closing on her first home. We offered $15k under list and asked for closing costs to be paid for. Granted, this is in a very small rural town; however, just know... If you have been looking for a home for the last 2 years and have not had great luck, now is the time to take advantage of the changing market. You can refi when rates drop.

Seeking some advice for home buying. Went under contract on a new construction back in March, was originally supposed to be ready in August but has been delayed until November. I’ve began getting quotes for mortgage rates through lenders and the best I’ve seen so far is 5.75% (excellent credit, dp at 10%) at a 60 day lock. Debating if I should test my luck with the market to see if rates will drop or if I should go ahead and lock my rate in before Rates increase even more

Do tech companies in Canada give out RSUs or equivalent?

I was Listening to a podcast today about people in US tech getting rich from 50k to 100k of annual RSUs in the US that vest over 3 to 5 years then making millions when the company exits.

Wondering if there are similar opportunities in Canada or is it less common to receive a decent amount of equity here?
