I am in process of moving over to KPMG. Curious how the vacation/holiday policy is there?

25 days PTO a year(30 for D and above, don’t remember this one exactly)
Two firmwide shutdowns(July and December)
Jumpstart Fridays in summer
And most major public holidays

likehelpful

Jumpstart fridays are BS and a cheap gimmick to make it seem like everyone can have a more relaxed schedule. First of all, if you’re team doesn’t abide by it, you’re going to appear like you’re the bad person for jumpstarting. Second, you have to still work the same charge hours for the week anyway.

20 to 25 days depending on the level
Paid wk off - 4th of July
Paid wk of winter break (Christmas)
8 holidays

Y’all get 25 days. Geez.

My boss fired me because i ask for clarification on my employment right.

I got hired not long ago. I realise some of the employee benefits i was told (missing in the contract) contradict with what’s stated on the law. So i email the boss about it and ask for clarification. Immediately after the email i was fired.

Just want to make sure people know this and don’t apply jobs in this shady company- it is called UniQ Biotech, in Delta, BC, Canada

Starting a new job next month, and considering taking two days off for kids’ spring break next month. Not sure whether it’s appropriate to request time off for a new job (I would’ve preferred not to take any time off for first three months). I may just be able to just ask for a single Friday off (so 1 day rather than 2 days).

Any thoughts on whether I should proceed with the request? I just came from big law and want to make sure I’m not making a bad impression on my colleagues.

Has anyone heard or experienced going on maternity leave, then leaving shortly after returning? I'm hearing from my husband's company if he takes pat leave, and leaves shortly after returning, he'd have to repay the wages paid while out on leave. Is this only for pat leave and the person who gives birth wouldn't have to pay back as it's technically disability pay? Trying to weigh my options as I want to get out of my company, but want the mat leave first.

I have a possible opportunity at Protiviti. Coming from big4 and wondering if Protiviti has fairly similar perks. I’ve read the 2022 benefits guide and it gave a oddly low PTO count of 16 days. Is this true and what about a holiday disconnect in the December time period? Are there any other hidden perks that are awesome? Already heard WLB is better and the culture, but I feel like I’ve gotta find that out first hand. Protiviti

How many of you woke up with hangover this morning.

My husband quit his very well-paying job in February to become a freelancer. I was fully supportive of this move because he was miserable at his job. He is hustling and trying to find work but it is slow. We are depleting our savings and I am stressed about our financial health and feel like retirement is getting pushed further out. I am struggling not to feel resentful. I don’t want to push him back into a career he hates but also feel like part of being an adult is making hard decisions.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
