Why...on Earth would you tell them that? That's like going on a first date with someone and telling them that you're about to be official with someone else.
Probably best to call the recruiter and be honest. Explain that you understand the perception and don’t want to start off on the wrong foot, that long term you are very interested in Facebook. She probably wants to speak with the hiring manager to see how they feel about it before proceeding with any additional interviews. Something to think about...Maybe better to revisit your candidacy in 3-6 months after you have had a chance to see if EY is a good fit. The recruiter will likely remember you as the candidate that bowed out gracefully. If you do additional interviews be prepared for the questions to come up
Perception may be that if you reneg on offer from EY then you might also do it to them.
I think you need to be more concerned with the fact that you accepted an offer at EY.
Some companies have a policy that they don’t talk to folks with an offer, probably due to them being burned too many times by dual offers.
Always soften the phrasing to make it indicate an offers around the corner or something. Truth be told they don’t give a damn what you’re doing before your start date so long as you show up to day 1 not in handcuffs and give them some level of plausible deniability in case the company you leave at the alter raises a stink.
I’m not encouraging you to lie, but probably would have told the FB recruiter that you have an offer outstanding with EY (not that you accepted the offer) so that they can hopefully speed up the interview process with you
Lesson learned is do not show your cards to anyone until you make up your mind and have concrete offer in your hand.
Recruiters are here to make money by placing you. So they will think about themselves first and you second
Well if you were her, how would you feel about someone who has not even started but already interviewing for their next job? Harsh way of looking at it and understanding that it’s how timing worked out, but these are also vastly different companies so it’s a high risk that you come across as undecided and unreliable (will join EY just to leave shortly after and surely disappoint some people). Only option I see is to call her, explain, reiterate interest and ask her when would they be willing to discuss again. But it’s a black mark for sure in my opinion.
She did mention that! How do you deal with such situations?
I would also delay the start date at EY if you are still shopping around for a better offer. EY is usually pretty flexible with start dates. Base on what you said, there’s no way FB could have gotten you an offer and given you time to consider before you are scheduled to start at EY, so That may have been the reason they dropped you from the interview process.
this interview process has to be postponed. Is it not okay to tell such details in an interview?
Thanks Booz Allen 1
I’m starting at D soon from EY. Interested in hearing your perspective in the positives and negatives!
Have you forgotten Monday is a holiday?! Make sure EY is open before you drive up there only to turn around and come back home
You dont say anything! I wouldn't continue an interview when you just told me you have accepted another offer. Now if you said you have an offer but you are very interested in XYZ company so have not made a decision at this point... that can be a positive spin.
So dumb of you to have told the recruiter you accepted an offer. It’s always smarter to keep your options open....
