Finally, a Partner who cares about their team members.
It's not universally true. I've worked with a partner who, if they client made a request last minute that required weekend work, the partner would say "Fine, but I'm not pulling the team in on this. I'm doing the work." Which meant a) they're going to get billed partner rates so maybe they want to rethink the request and b) the team was protected.
I would also say that because he had that mentality and approach, our team would never have let him take the work alone. Inspired loyalty. Wish other partners created that kind of environment
Dam you guys bill weekends? We just have to suck up the extra hours then get asked why our utilization isn't high enough, even though we are only allowed to bill 40 hours to any project.
We didn’t come this far to work on the weekends, we hired you for that.
This is the culture at PwC. Partners think it’s funny and don’t give a damn so they act all aloof about the staff’s plight. It’s like pledging a fraternity.
I have a delightful partner right now who is like a week behind on email and the client comes to me rather than partner when they need things.
Just got a nastygram this weekend from partner about a "low quality work product" that went to client, how it does not meet standards, how I need to think more critically about client needs, and am creating a fire drill bc doc is need by client for Tues and now we have to redo... because the partner is not tracking the email thread, thought the empty template client sent to me last week was what I sent to them, and doesnt realize I reviewed the deliverable with client Friday, got signoff, and sent final to them. Client did not tell me that had looped in partner and gotten nothing hence they outreached to me.
Partner has provided similar unfounded negative feedback about my work quality in the past so now im stuck having to respond and politely tell them its already done and my work product actually hits all the items they said I need to "think more critically about".
UPDATE: partner is now sending the request with the same wrong document to all the workstream leads under me. I got panicked texts from all of them during the super bowl asking why the partner is pinging them, what addl we need to do with the document to "complete", hadnt we already sent to client, do we need to get on the phone and firedrill tonight while still tipsy, etc. partner wants to talk to all of us tomorrow and set a call for waytoearly'o'clock and in the body of the invite put a screencap of the document/one of the offending slides.
It's. STILL. THE. WRONG. DOCUMENT. OMFG.
I texted the partner, sent a picture of the correct document and replied to all mails gently correcting that "that is a different doc. PFA actual, sent to client and approved on X date covering all your grievances". Im going to call in AM cause i am too tipsy to risk using the words "train wreck" with this... person.
Next up: carrier pigeon, smoke signal, nautical flags

I know for damn sure I am not burning out my team on the weekends now and intent to continue this policy as a partner. I literally will text my team and tell them not to touch things until monday.
I refuse to work on weekends, don’t care how “urgent” a particular scenario is. An ask is an ask that will wait until Monday morning.
The trick is to not care
Fuck the weekend work. Nothing in corporate America is so urgent. Everything can wait. I have sweated many weekends and nothing happens with that work on Monday. The partners out there learn to say no or somethings unexpected came up to clients and be respectful of your team’s weekend. If you do not do that people will leave and they can do it nastily in the middle of the projects. Nobody in corporate America is solving world hunger or Coronavirus problems.
I don’t answer anything on weekends.
You should work for boutique firm where work life balance is more and pay is better than Big4.

Partners are working on so many things at once, so they leverage down in order for the firm to be profitable. In my experience, no one wants to work wknds, but it’s sometimes required. Perhaps put yourselves in their shoes and view it as an opp to be part of something and work with a P - not everyone gets to do that.
I also see some people/partners brag about how the worked the whole weekend/ Christmas break/vacation. That is something we must be ashamed about and not brag about.

If you’re passionate about the work/client or even your team you won’t mind working on the weekend. Anyone who says they’re only in it for the money is lying, otherwise we’d all be in IBD. So if you’re not willing to work on the weekend, what are you doing at the b4🤷🏻♀️😂
I think it depends on the urgency of the work. Of course I’m not going to sit there going through my emails replying to requests about internal work
You need to figure out how to better juggle until Monday
