15 years in and im having the same issues
That’s a hard switch because most places look for experience in a certain field. How about sales? Commission based places can be profitable if you’re lucky and good at selling.
Most people get out of their field cause they were referenced by an internal. But not everyone is that lucky
Do your best to match your résumé to the keywords of the industry you want to go into. It's tough because a lot of resumes are being filtered out due to keywords, so changing industries is harder than ever. But if your resume matches what they're looking for (with your own restaurant industry twist) it could help.
A good approach might be to find some companies you'd like to work for and do some research on them and apply. It all depends on what kind of position you'd like to land in, of course. But you can't wait around for something to find you, you might need to apply where you think you could fit in and see how it goes.
Have you thought about working with a recruiter? Sometimes they can help you figure out what skills you have that are applicable to other roles. Recruiters can be a really great resource.
I have less experience than both of you and I'm trying to get out food service. It is comforting knowing that other people are in the same situation though. I guess it's hard for everyone unfortunately.
