I joined this forum so excited about my new job at BCG which will start in September, but now I’m kind of bummed hearing all the negativity you can find in some posts here about consulting 🤣 so, serious question: is it really as bad as some say it is? Or working at an MBB for some time is actually a really good life/career choice?

Haters gonna hate. And be more motivated to write about it. This drives social media. Period. So much more engagement is driven by misery and controversy and side-taking than posts like “I’m pretty happy and had a decent day”, which is how most people feel, most of the time.

It's simple: you trade quality of life for skills, reputation, and money. If that sounds good to you, then go for it but regularly think about what your exit strategy is.

That’s so well put. Exactly spot on.

Consulting is what you make of it. Focus on what you _can_ achieve, what you _can_ change and you'll find all the freedom to do what you want (as long as you write your hours on time). Don't pay attention to all the negative people, couldn't think of something I'd rather do (besides things that don't pay)

Hey Consultants. I just might have a Bain interview coming up in a few weeks. So far I have had 3 R1s of the other two MBB but got dinged. I don’t know what I am doing wrong but I need help as I call this the “last dance” so far I have done 40+ live cases with MBB consultants.

What are the ultimate consulting exit apps (I.e? specific role/team & industry) for the non-technical consultants? Looking to understand the exit opps available that: 1. Pay in line with MBB or exceeds (YOY raise is also in line with career and pay progression at MBB) 2. Have reasonable hours, at most 9-7 so I can pick up some hobbies and have a personal life 3. Have great global brand/prestige that will make me as desirable exiting consulting now vs exiting that company in the future

People say it is a consulting school but majority of campus hires are EU / British citizens. Not sure if Brexit has changed something recently.

Internally transferred into FDD as an audit senior 3. My coach and partner have indicated that I’m still eligible for promotion to manager based on years of experience. I’m trying to gauge the actual likelihood of this happening. Obviously firms bring in audit managers at the manager level with no FDD experience but would love to know if it’s possible/likely to be promoted to manager with less than a year of experience. I’d advise anyone in audit to transfer sooner rather than later!
