Depends on what your trying hard involves? Did it add value to the team and client? Maybe your peers are able to add the same value without trying as hard?
Working a busy season has never been an indicator of high performance. At the staff 1 level who really cares anyways
Try harder at personal branding then, you need to make people notice you work hard too, unfortunately...
Its as much perception as it is reality. Therr are people that sell themselves well. Popularity also counts
Any suggestions for improving perception and gaining popularity? I’m well known on the engagement teams I’m on, and I’ve received praise from the engagement partner on multiple occasions for my large role in driving their initiatives to increase audit efficiency, improve client insights, etc
Let’s start with the basics, what level are you? I have to ask as 2 busy seasons could mean 1 year in tax (January and August busy seasons) or just 2 years. Either way, if you are a staff level I wouldn’t expect much difference in your pay until senior. Even then, if you are on the normal progression I don’t think it would vary wildly. Try pushing to skip levels/early promo if you are that good.

1 year, assurance, two different year ends, was told on the team level that I had high performance and distinguished myself but that didn’t translate into the firm-wide review/compensation
Maybe try to work a bit less and then you’ll feel like you’re in line with your peers?
