I found out this week that I’m getting promoted to tax manager this fall. I had applied for a senior FP&A role at an insurance industry and now they asked me to the final round of interviews. Really my only reason for leaving is pay and wanting more consistent hours, but I worry industry will leave me wanting more money. What are your thoughts on this situation? Currently at a mid-tier firm.

Prob have better exit ops after title change even if you don’t stay a full year after promotion

Thanks for the response! The funny thing here is I don’t necessarily like being in the weeds. I want to be managing people, recruiting, training, doing business development, etc. Seems kind of like this may be a good fit for me.

If the effective date of the promotion is in the next couple months, then stick around. You can leave shortly after, but the promotion to manager will be a safety net for your resume if you end up hating the next job. Otherwise, you’ll be required to keep Sr. Acct on the resume. Also, consider the pay raise at the current firm and that (i assume) you’ll now be bonus eligible.

Yea, that’s a tough situation. Only you know what’s best. Good luck!

Do it. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

PA will eat you alive. Move on

I’ve been in PA for 5 years so I know all about it lol. I want that paper tho.

Do the final round interviews, and see what they offer. You can always say no to the offer.

Got offered to go to RSM from a big four with a 40% raise and a promotion. I should make manager this round if I stay so promotion isn’t that big of a deal. Should I take it?
