Run a google search on “canadian lawyer life insurance scam” and you’ll get your answer. Several results on this one.
Thank you! I followed your suggestion and now I know many people across the country have been hit by the same scam.

This is not a legal advice bowl. Please consult a lawyer in your area.
I’m shocked you emailed them and even more shocked they responded haha. I received that in the mail as well and I laughed as I was reading it. Please do not fall for it!
I’m sure the scammer is quite happy to have more email contacts to add to the pool.
1. I emailed him saying that based on what I read online, it is ilegal to claim someone's unclaimed life insurance policy if you are not the named beneficiary, and asked him to show evidence of this is legal.
2. He replied with the same letter content, and saying that he would "depose an affidavit of claim before a Court of Competent Jurisdiction thereby testifying to the fact that you are the next of kin to my deceased client, with the Affidavit of claim, we shall apply to the Registry in the Probate Division of the Court for a Letter of Administration of the deceased Estate in accordance with the extant
laws concerning inheritance in this country".
3. I am a US citizen, and I don't know if laws in Canada differ from the US and allows this type of claims, or if Americans can collaborate with a Canadian for such claim in Canada. I don't want to partner with anyone in anything that's potentially a fraud, but if this is perfect legal, yeah, I'd like to get the money and also make donations to charities.
Would like to hear all you legal experts if this has any validity, or just a scam or fraud? He did included his law firm's name and address in the letter, and I looked it up, and it does show up on Google Map, and I even found his picture on Google based on his name, so sounds like it's real, and you'd think scammers won't share their photos online, so this seems to be quite weird and puzzling.
How much money do you need to claim these funds? Since you replied to the scam.
He only asked for the name and address info in the email, and not for money yet, and now I'll ignore him.
Thank you everyone for the replies! OK, I made a dumb mistake here in contacting him. I googled this scam for more info per one suggestion here, and it appears to be multiple law firms in Canada being used in letters sent to people in many States all over the US. Hope the Canadian bar will do something about it.
