I am working for 12-14 hours a day in a non client facing role at one of the big 4. What are some of the exit opportunities I can think of in the next 1-2 years? I want to have a 9-6 job with decent pay.
What is it like being a partner ? What kind of life do you guys have ? Skill sets that can bring you to the top and things which can break your career ? I am currently a senior and wonder is it worth the grind ? At BIG 3 people become partners in like 10 years or so but big 4 it’s more like 15-17. Would it be worth hustling for it grinding 13 hours days consistently for years to become a partner at like 40-42? PwC Deloitte EY Boston Consulting Group McKinsey & Company
Please help my non-MBB self understand this, everyone keeps saying MBB has set salaries for each level, how does this work if everyone is coming in at different salaries? Is it worth the pay cut?
For folks exiting to FAANG / Product at start ups or really any hot company. How do you go about networking to get the interview? Do you apply then cold email someone you may have an “in”with, or are you picking say 10 companies and then having warm contacts there that you’ll ping when you see a job. I’ve been passively looking for jobs but zero luck, I only want to leave for the right fit. Big 4 here so feel my brand won’t auto get me an interview like mbb/t2
Went out on a date and was called a loser. I told her I appreciated everything in my life & now I’m a manager in big 4 and I’m happy with my life. She told me “you are only a manager in big 4 and how can you be happy? you should be working in the weekend to get to a better firm or at least be a senior manager at this age (33 yo). I’m really mad now.
What does M&A consulting at big 4 look like, especially at the entry level? All my previous experience is in audit/tax and I know nothing about consulting, just wanted to try something new. I liked my finance courses in undergrad, but not sure how relevant that is. Would I have ANY transferable skills from my accounting background? Can you explain what the work is like for a new hire? Especially if you've made a similar switch?
What is the stereotype of each Big 4 firm?
Are partners in IBM like SM in big 4?
MBB interviewers: “What’s your management style”, “What’s your communication preference”, ever hurt to provide a story to illustrate those traits? Or best spend that time elsewhere (“tell me about a time” questions, the case itself, etc). Ideally would do both, but only 30/45 mins here. TIA!
I’m a staff at a midsize firm. Only been here for 10 months but want to go to big 4. Most big 4 career pages are only hiring senior positions… will I have any luck securing a position preferably in audit by end of year?
Big 4 -> Software Sales? So I actually start in advisory with a diff b 4 firm tommorow as an experienced staff, I got contacted by a company that sells accounting software mostly close automation etc. they have big clients and got series D funding, I think I’d be a good fit but I don’t know how to judge these huge life decisions when they come so quick. I don’t HATE what I do now but I hate the cpa stuff and I think I might leave, thoughts?
Are there any Israeli fishes here that can share their perspective on how unionizing has affected the Big 4 in Israel? Currently this may be the only country where big 4 accountants have union membership & collective bargaining agreements, so I'm curious what the motivations were and whether you feel it's been worth it https://en.globes.co.il/en/article-ey-first-israeli-accounting-firm-to-sign-collective-labor-agreement-1001195205
Has anyone looked at the CFA qualification? Currently a 2nd year Senior in audit at B4. Looking to pivot away from accounting and more into finance. Don't want to pay $$$ for MBA
I'm thinking of leaving Big 4 to go to a boutique firm. I have 2 years of experience. They are bringing me in at the Senior level. Smaller market. Ill be doing consulting on tax credits. They asked me for a salary range- is 75k-85k reasonable? or is that too low?
Need advice for resigning while on bench. I already have a start date with the new employer. Should I do a traditional two week notice or give <=1 week notice instead? My goal is to not burn bridges, but I also don’t want to get let go on the spot since I have nothing to “wrap up” besides HR tasks. I’ve read on here that sometimes they will let you go day of and pay you out for two weeks but I don’t see why any firm would do that for somebody not currently performing billable work...
Anyone given the Googlyness and Leadership interview? What kind of questions are asked?
How is IBM Enterprise Strategy? WLB, Comp vs B4, team culture, work overall. Appreciate any insight- thanks!

What are people wearing to zoom interviews these days? I have a couple with PE firms coming up and I’m not sure if I should go with the athleisure look or full on suit and tie?
Does EY pay 100% for maternity leave 4 weeks before baby is due? I know they do 16 weeks post delivery but CA state law allows you to take 4 before due date. Anyone able to get it approved and paid?
Resigning while on paternity leave - should i wait till get back then submit resignation or can I resign while on leave and still get paid while on leave? Engagement will appreciate the advanced cont.
This may be just a naive/dumb question, but how do you relax when you’ve got a really stressful file? I’m a junior and I’ve been putting in ~10ish billable hours a day recently, which is more than I’m used to. The evenings (post-8pm) are generally my time to decompress - read a book, watch dumb tv, whatever - but it’s been all work lately until 10 or 11pm and I struggle to go straight from work to bed. Any insight on what everyone else does?
I have an upcoming modeling test for an interview. Problem is, I have a Mac. Do people here suggest I use my Mac? I don’t feel like spending money on a pc
Call it “diversity theater”: the many PR rituals and bureaucracies obscuring the line between the value of diversity and how companies actually treat their marginalized employees trying to make a change.
Currently evaluating an offer from a data analytics-focused consulting firm, with the ultimate goal of moving to the investing world (e.g. a hedge fund). Is this a possible exit opp? Trying to figure out my paths
Does anyone have any tips for switching from a Business Analyst role to a Product Management Role? Context: I've been in federal consulting for the past two years with a degree in Economics. Thanks!
Why do MBA hires make so much for only 2 additional years of courses? Even when looking at the classes, it doesn't seem like anything crazy you couldnt learn from some other avenue?
Can anyone explain CLEAR to me? I have Global Entry which includes PreCheck but was sent an email from United about CLEAR.
This has extreme 'bargaining with a child' energy.
PSA: PwC has unfrozen comp and will be giving base comp adjustments effective on 01/01/2021. Advisory on cohort system will be trued up to their current cohort based on FY20 salary and all other groups will receive incremental salary adjustments from 1-5%. Now that’s a Christmas gift!
Everytime I ask my boss for a raise he tells me there is a freeze. How should I handle the situation?
