Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Have an offer at Citi for 120K as an AVP in the NY office. Currently making 92K at my current role. Is this a fair offer? I currently WFH pretty much full time at my current role but it seems like this one requires 2-3 days in the office - and this is something I’m very hesitant about. Thoughts on how to approach this?
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

Do you know the experience of both candidates and how much more they asked for? Also the company could have been more desperate to fill a role for the first friend. Without details you seem to be making assumptions that nobody on here could verify without all the details.
Agreed
It's entirely possible that sexism could come into play. But two people encountering two different scenarios wouldn't be proof of that. There are lots of factors that determine whether a company would be willing to negotiate, and most of them are entirely legitimate.

As has been alluded to, there are so many possible reasons for this beyond sexism, the most likely being that they offered her the most they would be willing to out of the gate. As this job abysmal job market drags on employers are learning how little give is needed to land good tslent.
Highly likely;however, there are many other factors to consider like the role itself, experience of the candidate, urgency to fill the role, amount of competition for the role, etc.

Definitely find out if they even have the same qualifications or not and go from there.
There could be many things going on here. It could be a combination of experience plus some sexism plus conversations being structured differently leading to different outcomes
