I have a meeting on Monday with HR and a disgruntled employee. He's mad because I asked him to consider apologizing to a coworker because he was openly talking poorly of the coworker. This employee often lies and manipulates to get his way. He consistently and openly criticizes the org and other employees. Anytime I hold him accountable, he runs to my boss. My boss has created a good cop/bad cop dynamic that I do not appreciate. Its bs. I'm scared this is somehow going to be bad for me.

My hands are shaking!! I just got off a call with my toxic manager who is clearly not happy I am being poached for another division. I tried to hold firm as he attempted to 20 question me, who was it, who wants me, what division, how did they find out about me? And of course the gaslighting of “why didn’t you come to me I could have helped or made introductions”. Clearly everything is about him. How have you handled such situations? What could I have done better with my abusive manager?

Have you ever been told off by an older attorney of color? We have one Black partner at our firm and in conversation with him this morning he told me I should work on sounding and looking "more professional" and not let my "tone" or "bad attitude" get in the way. I don't think I've ever had a bad attitude at work, and whatever "tone" I'm speaking in it's my normal one. As a Black woman I just feel super weird about it and kind of sad.
