No risk of clawback since you’ve had the card for 2 years. Message them on the website and say you’d like to cancel due to the high AF and see if they give you a retention offer. If not then just close it
Don’t believe you can - think it needs to be a new card.
From the Amex terms: “if you cancel or downgrade your account within 12 months after acquiring it… we may take away Membership Rewards points from your account” I wouldn’t cancel it now. Maybe in 6 months for a prorated AF. Tbh though, I find the Amex Gold to be one of the easier cards to get value back on. $240 of the $250 is covered by food and Uber credits.

You can't cancel past 30 days. You could however downgrade for a prorated refund
Don’t downgrade, that should be an option, but isn’t a good option if you haven’t earned the signup bonus yet on the no annual fee MR card. The Amex Everyday card is 25k points with 15 months of 0% APR. You find this bonus through incognito mode. Best bonus for that card, no annual fee, then close your gold card after your approved and the annual fee hits. Don’t close before it posts as Amex is much more strict (they haven’t approved me in over 36 months for a card…) A new card and closed card might impact you ~10 points max, for a very short duration. I have had 50+ cards and averaged around a 730-760 score. I took 22 months off to get back to 5/24 and got to 800+ within 6 months of not applying, but with numerous closures.

-if you don't use uber/Grubhub at all then the card is not for you -> cancel -If you have amex corp card, you can get $100 credit -if you're ambivalent, see what retention offer they can give
