I have been part of projects where we brought in consultants to drive initiatives and I am curious how others experience this because sometimes they bring structure, speed, and outside perspective we may not have internally, but other times it creates gray areas around ownership, accountability, and who is really driving decisions, especially for those of us labeled as PMs. For those who have worked alongside consultants, what makes the partnership successful and what tends to create friction?

I was industry where this was the norm. We consulted others and others came in every once in a while to consult. Worked out well for us but we all had knowledge of the industry so it worked really well.

The consultants should accelerate progress but often have different agendas.
