Similar comp when adjusted for the different job locations. Can anyone help me with the Pros and Cons please. Downgrade the Chase Sapphire card to a Chase Freedom since it has no fee. Add her to that one. The amount saved on fees there will handily cover the $75 fee to add a user to the Reserve card. Use the Freedom on the 5% categories only, then transfer the points to Reserve at the end of each month. Boom!
Why not just call Chase and ask for an additional card? Tell them your magnetic strip is getting worn down. Give the new card to your wife so she can use it. No annual fee.
Sorry for the confusion. The other cars is sapphire regular with no annual fees. So I am thinking of adding her to that and then transfer points earned on her spend to my reserve card
In that case, depends on her spending habits. I would do a product switch on that card anyway tho, to either the Freedom Unlimited or the Freedom - either of those are probably a better option than the Chase Sapphire base card
Why do you have both those cards? You should probably downgrade the CSP to a freedom unlimited or a regular freedom (depending on your spending habits, both have no annual fee), then add your spouse as an authorized user to the CSR
Strategy&.....I am already doing that. Lol. The reason I want card in her name because she is soon going to have work related expense that she can only charge on card under her name and want to take advantage of those points :)
OP, sounds like you’re on the right track here plus your spouse should be getting it on her/his credit report as well.
$75 isn't that much for an authorized user for the benefits of the CSR. If she spends $2,500 on dining/travel you'll get that $75 back in rewards points...
But like everyone else said, if you downgrade the base Sapphire card to a Freedom card you could save that money and go for bonus categories every quarter.
