I did it for 4 months and was able to save up for a down payment for my new house. More saved up in 4 months than in the previous decade!
Took 3 months before getting another J2. Did that for 4 months and was able to fully renovate the newly bought house with cash.
JUST DO IT!
I did this a year ago it was the best decision ever! I paid for a down payment on my house and paid off some other bills all totaling around 40k. I took a break and kept one job over the summer. I am ready to jump back in. Just remember you don't have to do it forever. If it becomes overwhelming scale back.
It can make a big difference, as long as you're diligent in not spending that money.
I recommend opening a wholly separate bank account (at a different bank than you currently use)... And DO NOT look at the account balance, do not download the app, etc. Do not know how much you get extra, because lifestyle creep will occur. Pretend you have 0 extra money and live exactly the way you do now.
Deposit 100% of your J2 pay there...
Get paper statements mailed to you. Monitor those statements for unusual activity, maintain minimums to avoid fees...
Otherwise don't look at that money, don't touch it, etc.
I can refer you to Marcus High Yield savings (about 4%-5% interest), and you'll get 3 months of an even higher higher APY with referral.
I did it for about 6 months to save up for some future expenses and pay debt. Based on my experience, you have to really find the right job to OE with. It has to work schedule wise and be flexible and not micro managed. Mine started getting more complicated and more was being asked of me and I couldn’t hold on much longer because it was becoming stressful and taking a toll on me personally. But yes, it did help a lot.
Yes, it will make a big difference. I paid off 200k loan in 18 months.
How did you get J2 after J1? J1 is my first job in the same area and J2 knows my J1 bc of my resume…maybe I messed up already
Been thinking this same thing for a little while but it's been hard to find a 2nd that works for me.
Same, I caused this on myself though. I made it to the final round twice and chickened out..
