It's vesting on employer contributions. Vests over 4 years but it's a phased %, something like 40/60/80/100.
That's not wrong. I know for new hires out of college what op said is accurate
No point if you wouldn't do it otherwise (have better use for after tax money that isn't 30% saved on taxation) Ex, I need cash on hand for certain property deals I plan to do- like this, let's say I was putting 10k in a year to generally, by doing what I want, my immediate loss is that 3k I would have saved in taxes (assuming my average tax is 30%). Overall, I only do till match but seeing the situation, its like, for me at least, I'm only putting like 5% of paycheck, I don't need that extra cash today. If I was 18.5k into it (maxing out yearly) then it's a different story
Your contribution is your own. D's contribution has a vesting schedule. You should still contribute since that entails a tax saving.
I’m confused. Shouldn’t you know your own benefits?
vs. other areas (IRA, other savings, etc.)?
That s wrong. Vesting is only about the private pension that Deloitte offers, and vesting is 4 years
What's the schedule
I was told that it’s 20% after 1 year, 40% after 2, 60% after 3, and 100% after 4
Wow that is pretty horrible
I'm hearing the tax benefits as one reason to continue saving to the 401k. Other than that, is there any other reason if the employer doesn't even match? I might as well just save in other plans (IRA, 529, etc.)
Every if you're not completely vested, they should still be matching.
D matches 25% on 6%
Contribute to your 401k for he tax benefit and roll it over to a traditional IRA when you leave
