I heard someone in the office talk about how they spend 20 minutes every 2-3 hours applying for other jobs. I'm pretty sure he was loud enough that people in there who are directly reporting to upper management heard it. Are we being this open/unapologetic about things like this now? I would never have the courage to say something like that unless I'm whispering in my softest voice and into someone's ears.

I welcome this conversation - Layoffs are happening nonstop. You’ve got to protect yourself. There is time and place, but we should be able to normalize talking about this a bit more openly. It’s illogical to assume that I’m not going to care about my current job just because I’m seeing what else is out there

like

Also, if we’re thinking about the world we actually live in today.. It’s illogical for anyone to really be slacking off given the current job market and economy so once again I just wouldn’t assume that

I've also noticed people are more open about job hunting nowadays, especially in casual office chatter. To me it comes off as bold or even careless, but who knows?? Maybe it’s a sign of shifting workplace norms

I don’t know how old you are but 30 years ago people stayed at their job thill they retired, it was a family. CEOs changes that by outsourcing functions, and let HR run a muck, so yes people today change jobs for a 1$ extra.
