I heard that travel used to be a thing pre-COVID. Any idea if travel is coming back?

If you are already in a super big market like Bay Area or NYC, do we even travel since all the deals are probably happening in home office?

I feel like a boomer reading this. Do new employees seriously go “travel used to be a thing”?

Your question is too broad though, traveling really depends on the group and the client.

funny

FDD definitely used to travel pre Covid. Some firms’ FDD have started to travel now also, but dependent on the clients’ request. Some clients are fine with the FDD team being fully remote while some aren’t.

you don't necessarily get staffed on a deal because of the location...

And like the other said - the target location is generally not related to where we are as a diligence team. But you won’t be working with a NY EY team, that will be West people.

For the most part, no. Pre Covid travel is mostly for mgmt meeting and work paper review. Now that both can be done remotely, we have no seen a push to go back to the old ways. A lot of clients like this since they can get us to pump out deliverables faster after virtual meetings while also saving ~10% on fees.

Hello, hoping for some input on how to time a job change. At a startup - we are doing well now but unless we have complete turnover in management I don’t think we have a bright future post-COVID. I could coast here 1-2 years before having to look. I’ve been here for a little under a year. This is my second in house job after 10 years at the same firm. The market is hot now, probably won’t be in 1-2 years and I am getting interest for good roles. OTOH I don’t want to look like a job hopper.

Hello! Looking at an opportunity with established startup in UK that's just been acquired by a large co. I'm not sure how to reply to them because I have a feeling that my requirement may be out of their range and while I don't want to undercut my value, I also don't want to be cut out of the process because it's an interesting co. Any thoughts around how to use M&A tax skills for the better good? I’m a CPA and originally got into this for a stable / interesting job, but in the long-term I’d like to do something that either influences drafting of tax legislation or helps the public (however naive that may sound).
