Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

If they told you flat out it’s non-negotiable, I wouldn’t try to negotiate. Look at the offer and whether it is way below others out there, and balance that with taking it, getting experience, and then moving on to something better when the chance comes.
Most entry-level positions wouldn’t offer much wiggle room for salary. What are your qualifications for the role? How many years experience in the industry? If it’s entry level, most likely that answer is none. So what would be the basis on negotiations?
From what I’ve seen, entry-level jobs often have set starting pay, but it doesn't hurt to ask. I usually frame it as, “Is there any flexibility?” That way, you’re showing interest while also advocating for yourself.
Unfortunately for entry level there’s not a lot of leverage for more.. however you should ask about other perks such as more vacation or a flexible work arrangement..etc
Agreed. Unless it's a specialty every level that you have direct qualifications, I'd focus on crushing it in year 1.
Might be worth exploring growth opportunities (role, pay) and how they evaluate (annual reviews, etc).

Sometimes I’ve seen salaries truly being non Negotiable for entry level; it could be worth checking to confirm and then asking about salary progression / path to move into a non entry level role to see if that makes you feel better about salary progression long term?
If they’ve already said non-negotiable, I’d probably leave it at that. I just wouldn’t chance it (I’m risk averse). If it’s your only offer, I’d consider using it for the experience then move on. Any extra $$ you ask for probably won’t be as life changing as the experience you get to start your career.

I would advise trying to negotiate if they said non-negotiable.
