OP Yup. Biggest reason I’m looking to leave, among others of course. I belong to one group who has nothing to do with my skill set but there’s always that pesky TFS that wants you to get staffed in the wrong projects. I want to belong where I feel my skills are and as you mention, it’s better to quit and do it somewhere else.
Connect with managers or senior managers in strat and ask to help out. People always need help with extra stuff. Tell them "I've done X which applies to Y strat projects. How can I be involved?" If you stand out they will reach out to you when they need an all star for the next project. Strat bench may be heavy but skills and reputation can trump that.
This is why a lot of people leave. It gets so frustrating when you can’t transfer when you skill set already belongs to the area you want to transfer to. It’s also the fucking story of my life and I’m fucking tired of it.
Amen @A1. I've been a begging dog in this firm to try and move to Strat but it's literally easier for me to move firms. Which is ridiculous cause I'd rather stay and try to help. ACN Strat.
We can barely staff the people already here!
I just don't get why...you've spent so much $ in recruiting me. And with a business case + skill set + desire to work hard and build the practice...why wouldn't you let someone switch? I don't even care about the salary difference....
@A3 I find it hard to stand behind or align with a firm that takes no value of my career path or interest when my goal is the help them! It shouldn't be this impossible to make a move especially if I have a business case after spending 1+ year chasing similar work in either BD settings or on an engagement.
Why are you so obsessed with joining a struggling group? Lack of work makes progression much slower than other parts of Accenture and it's not really considered "strategy" by tier 1/2 competitors. Seems like a potentially poor career decision.
I would say not to be in a rush and just try to deploy to Start when you are up for C, you obviously can make a case for it right?
Millennials..............SMDH
A9 still better than writing requirements
@A2 projects and timelines match up better with my skill set and interest. Know plenty of people in Strat who I stand toe to toe with in terms of ability.
K1 no, analyst at ACN. I really don't want to leave but if after 1.5 years there's no light at the end of the tunnel, I'll have to.
So, quit? Move on. You’re sinking with your own expectations, don’t take Strategy or Accenture down with it. With that said, why aren’t they taking you on? What’s been the feedback? What Strategy partners have you talked to about the business need that your skill set would fill?
Also, to add insult to injury, if I would've started at this firm 3-4 years ago, I'd be MCDP with all you Strat guys, and most likely have been "rebranded" as Strat when the re-org happened. But now I'm here getting the short end of the stick. Ok rant over 😅
Interviews would never work a number of reasons. You'll need to get on a Strategy project, crush it, and make sure the MD sees it.
So, it’s possible and you are doing the right things. But, honestly, I don’t know why you would want to move to Strat, other than for the money and maybe the MBA sponsorship. Some of the MC folks I have worked with have been much better consultants than some of my Strategy colleagues - better and more senior client relationships, better handle of basic business concepts, better communication skills, etc. Also, now it’s a bad time, since there is not a lot of strategy work being sold.
Read Kafka. Yes shit isn't fair.
Bro. No matter where you go, there you are. If you’re a strategic thinker, your requirements will tie directly to a bottom line. (Try it - it’s hard.) You sound high maintenance - almost whiny - about the realities. It’s not going to happen over night, or within a quarter or two. But, that’s nothing in a 40 year career. As someone stated above, you can’t just fit in with Strategy to transfer, you have to be better than the others to transfer. If you were an MD running a multi-million dollar business, what value do you bring them by being added to their P&L? You’re a risk.
@K1 timelines match my interest. I don't enjoy projects that spread out over 2.5-3 months especially when they're not intellectually stimulating either
