I know I want to move to NY at some point in the near future, but am just trying to decide the right time. From a rent perspective, but also from the perspective it not being worth it when there are limited things to do. What are other people thinking?

Last summer and fall were epic and so much fun - low cases, lot’s to do, was living like it was 2019
Different story now i would wait till early April but it’ll be back by June

like

Apartment parties substituted nightclubs, outdoor dining and outdoor drinking at parks substituted bars
So for me it was similar enough but yea maybe not everyone

like

I was literally just talking to a friend about this. Probably going to move back by year end

like

I was still able to do stuff during the summer (safely) so I kind of hope most people don’t come back til the fall lmao

Also most of my friends got a great deal on a place so I’d suggest trying to lock in a place mid summer - fall before more people come back. Not sure when spikes will happen but most out of town friends are looking to move back May/June.

like

Keeeps on getting pushed back. First it was early this year then the spring now people are saying end of year. I wonder how the summer will be.

like

I’ve been here through the whole thing. I’d recommend spring! Maybe May. Reason is 2 fold - 1. Summer and fall were SO FUN and WILL BE so fun because we know we’ll hav outdoor dining 2. It’s nice to be on that renting cadence because there’s typically a lot more available May/June than other months

I just hit my lean fire number but am hesitating to pull the trigger, so was hoping to run it by people smarter than me:

- I have a few rentals that bring in ~$1800/mo cash flow, taxes are negligible, Capex incl.
- My paper assets will bring in ~$1200/mo at 3% draw
- I get free Healthcare at the VA
- No plans on kids
- My expenses haven't topped $30k/yr ever
- I could always reenter the workforce if needed (albeit probably not in consulting)

Please point out the flaws here, what am I missing?
