I know my client needs an Accounting Manager. I know this because they’re startup med device company that has their books in complete shambles. The current accounting team isn’t very strong. How do I let the client know that I would be interested in joining them? They’re not actively recruiting for any position but I know they’d benefit from it. Serious responses only :)

Make sure you’re really comfortable doing that before moving forward. My firm’s independence guidelines required immediate notification to the engagement leader if there were any employment discussions being had with an audit client. And depending on the relationship you have with the client, they could take offense, causing the relationship to be strained and possibly requiring you to rotate off the job. Then you’re stuck with the firm knowing you’re looking for other opportunities. There’s not a whole lot of upside unless you know it’s a slam dunk and you’re ready to get out of public.

Yup, it’s part of the Independence Standard No.3. 2.a However... if you go for it, and go for the equity baby 💴 💰 💵!!!!

Hello! I have an inital call with HR coming up for a non-technical program manager role and I’m anticipating the expected total comp question. I’m coming from a non-tech background so I’m not sure what would be reasonable. Not sure what L level this role would be (it’s titled just Program Manager). Role would be in the Bay Area (currently live in DC). I’ve got 10 YOE, mostly in the government (3 in consulting). Any insight would be helpful!

Hi all, I’m looking for ways to develop myself professionally. I would love recommendations or tips on how you continue education in your field to stay relevant and continue to learn about different marketing strategies. Any tips on really good conferences, programs, classes, books, would be so so appreciated. I’m currently a senior manager for local marketing activations on a planned path to become a director. Thank you!

Has anyone here committed to a partner who has significant debt? My partner of over a year has >$300K in debt from med school. I am fortunate to be debt free and am saving aggressively with the aim of making a down payment on a NYC apartment in the next 5 years. We would like to get married before owning property (cont)
