In the grand scheme of things, it really isn’t bad at all. He will get other opportunities and years from now, chances are he will look back and realize being laid off was a blessing in disguise.
Crap, I know someone that just started not too long ago :(
Hiring managers understand that new hires often get fired first when restructuring. Tell your friend not to stress too much and start preparing for the new job search.
Thank you for the feedback. I heard that layoffs usually hit managers and Sr Analyst levels; while new hires rarely get hit (considering they just joined). What do you think?
OP, it depends on the role. If they can justify rolling you're friend's duties to a other person, he could potentially get cut. In my experience, cut occur to those that earn "too much" for their role. Also, that industry is pretty small, so he'll be able to bounce back with another publisher because of the Activision experience. Tell him to keep his head up and to start looking. Being laid-off happens to the majority of us.
He says he’s learned a lot, and acknowledges that Activision is a big name in that industry. Considering he barely has any experience, will having top company name open doors in his industry? Thanks everyone
