I know someone that might be affected by the Activision layoffs, and he’s only 6 months out of UG. Any tips or advice that I could give him?

In the grand scheme of things, it really isn’t bad at all. He will get other opportunities and years from now, chances are he will look back and realize being laid off was a blessing in disguise.

Crap, I know someone that just started not too long ago :(

Hiring managers understand that new hires often get fired first when restructuring. Tell your friend not to stress too much and start preparing for the new job search.

Thank you for the feedback. I heard that layoffs usually hit managers and Sr Analyst levels; while new hires rarely get hit (considering they just joined). What do you think?

OP, it depends on the role. If they can justify rolling you're friend's duties to a other person, he could potentially get cut. In my experience, cut occur to those that earn "too much" for their role. Also, that industry is pretty small, so he'll be able to bounce back with another publisher because of the Activision experience. Tell him to keep his head up and to start looking. Being laid-off happens to the majority of us.

He says he’s learned a lot, and acknowledges that Activision is a big name in that industry. Considering he barely has any experience, will having top company name open doors in his industry? Thanks everyone

Another point to keep in mind amidst PwC layoffs is we have ~60K global in advisory. Condolences to ya'll who got axed, I'd be just as infuriated. How large are your firms consulting practice?

Just got hired, a week in. Hearing rumblings about “restructuring” and “realigning” of my team. I’m super nervous. Usually those words mean downsizing / layoffs. Is this concerning? ☹️

To the so called leadership in Deloitte USI you didnt handed out any hikes in 2020 despite good revenue and business. In contrast to that there were firms in India who were giving out flat basic hikes and all to their employees despite the pandenic. Then you fired ppl in July 2020. And all because of that now you are seeing an "historic" attrition and the laughable attempt to retain ppl. Hope you all grow a spine and learn something out of this fiasco.

Being terminated as part of reorg. 13 years of service, consistently exceeded expectations. Officially considered partner. Package is 26 weeks of severance pay, two months "gardening leave", plus payout of long-term incentive. Would have preferred a more cooperative approach to voluntary retirement. Thoughts?

We are used to living and working in big cities w/o a car (NYC, Chicago), but that doesn't seem possible in SF/SJ without a long commute time. I think I made a faux pas during a discussion with a recruiter when asked what my salary expectations were. I KNOW not to give my number first but I was so caught off guard by the question since it was our initial discussion that I just blurted out a range. I’m afraid that I’ve now locked myself into a range with little room to negotiate if extended an offer. Any advice for how to proceed?

18 weeks pregnant (1st time) and have always been an active/fit person workingout 5x/wk cardio/treadmill and some weight lifting. I've toned down my workout routine since I found out I'm preg as I got 2 v diff advice from the NP I first saw then the OB/GYN herself. NP warned of exercising as this should not be my priority now (which I agree) he warned from any running/or weight lift (were talking 40-70 lbs). Ob was so flexible about it and said I can maintain my routine as long as not exhausted.
