I left Booz Allen Hamilton a while ago because I was afraid of the DOGE cuts and took a 25% pay reduction. At the time there weren’t very many remote data jobs. Have things improved? I love my new job more than I did working at Booz but am kicking myself for taking the pay cut.

I took a risk and lateraled out, no regrets. It’s been 6 months and I’ve almost made more in raises in my new role than I did my whole time at Booz, which included one promotion there. Life is so much better outside of BAH. Keep your head up and don’t look back.

Things have not improved. Count your blessings and don’t spend too much time looking in the rearview 😉

None of the people on this thread know what they are talking about because they are not at the Sr Staff levels. There are plenty of remote jobs, especially with data science/ML. The issue is people's lack of motivation to upskill for the required work. That's why I lost ~8 people below the Lead Associate level in 2025. The fat has been trimmed over 2025 and you most likely fell in that bucket if this was your look on the company. Every job has uncertainty. Go go big tech and just pray your job lasts more than 12mo.

Billable requirements are down. Hiring is increasing. Hell I can't even fill my contracts right now. Do your research. Don't listen to people that are responding with little experience (and yes, a level 3/Associate falls in this bucket because they don't see the business side). The only other person that actually has insight was the BAH 4 person correcting the supposed "director".

You don’t have control over any of these “macro” type events. As gently as I can say it - speculating is what got you into this mess, it won’t get you out of it.

Just focus on your work and your career. If your current gig isn’t giving you want you want, time to start looking.

Speculating on any version of “the job market” makes no sense on the individual level.

Good luck!

What was the pay you had before and now?

Ah good point, I’m thinking of it more as a launch point while I get a masters and learn tech so I can pivot into more fun stuff, with higher pay

I’ve been with my current company for a little over 5 years now and since the start of the pandemic have been WFH. I absolutely love WFH and have always wanted a position in which I could WFH. There is talk of bringing everyone back to the office full time and that’s not what I would like to happen. I’ve been searching for a new position in which it would be a remote role. My current company also said I am maxed out in term of what they are willing to pay salary wise.

So I’m in industry from big 4, and a colleague with same yoe comes from MBB. High paying tech firm. I think I work harder and produce quality content at speed, but they can hold executive conversations that tend to impress senior stakeholders.

Big 4 produces work horses and MBB produces leaders. Also they could be a work horse too since I don’t have full visibility.

Anyone have similar experiences or do I just suck at executive stakeholder management?
