I need to study for my PMP but just can't read the textbook without adderall. I've been trying to stay clean of it, but I know I could have taken the exam already if I just buckled down, took my meds, and studied. Why am I shooting myself in the foot? *end of rant*

Considering it’s the PMP book even the most non ADHD person would need meds to get through it

like

True, 30 pages is 1 chapter of very dry material

I have to ask, why are you doing PMP? As someone who has managed ADHD for all my life I would never volunteer to project manage without grabbing a Jr. Resource to actually do the management. One thing about ADHD, don't exhaust yourself trying to jam a square peg into a round hole. The second thing is TAKE YOUR MEDS, trying to be a hero and power through is a recipe for anxiety and depression. If it keeps you up at night, try some vitamin C at night. It will counteract some of the stimulant effects.

like

Im not at a leadership position to manage Jr. Resources yet but wish i could do that. My company has already paid for the book, training, etc. I know I can achieve it. Im mostly getting it for the exit opportunities where PMP is required. Thanks for your help!!

I could not get beyond the first few pages, I took the pmp in 2012 and it was PMBOK 4. I switched my strategy to taking tests - the time pressure was what helped me stay focused. I did 4 or 5 tests it was enough to get me to pass.

helpful

yo stop reading and start taking tests. A1 is 💯. u will review ur answers u got wrong and learn that way. ur performance on the tests will improve. then u will be ready to take it after a few tests. ur taking a test, study for the test.

Are you federal?

My previous company was really encouraging me to get it and i made it a goal of mine. I hate to give up on goals as i already committed to it. I also noticed many job openings prefer it too, so its also to keep myself competitive.

Can you get an audiobook summary? Or use speechify

It will help a lot. Check and see if it’s on YouTube or Scribd that might help. I presume that you know how to be a project manager and this is the dumb jump through hoop part of the process. Leverage it to your advantage that you know how to do this you just have to learn how to take this test.

Is there a reason you’re trying to stay clean of it?

Also trying not to be in a loop of adderall, ambien, adderall, ambien... drug loop is not a good combo

If you have a legal prescription, why are you trying to not use a legal medicine that helps?

I take 25mg 🥲

I would appreciate your perspective.
I am currently working on my MBA in a professional evening and weekend program at a highly accredited university. I am thinking about transferring to a much smaller private online program, specifically because they offer a concentration in organizational health, which directly builds on my doctoral research. Does great depth and specialization outweigh the value of a highly respected generalist degree?
