Did they pay you up to the date in your notice?
Happened to me once and caught me off guard. Since then, I’ve been more strategic with timing and client wrap-up. It’s tough when you’re ready to finish strong, but glad you’re moving on to something better.

I put in my two weeks once and was asked if I wanted to finish out the week instead of working out the notice period. That was fine and I enjoyed the extra time off. At my last firm I got fired and they immediately cut off my access to systems. I generally when you give notice you should be prepared for it to be your last day. We’re dispensable.
Once you announce, the firm may have a variety of reasons for accelerating your departure. They have no obligation to keep you around for the notice period. Most firms will end it early and pay out the notice but they don’t have to. It’s not personal and it’s inherent in being at will. You could just as easily left with no notice. It’s life.
