I’m exiting right after I hit M. Not interested in neither the selling nor the WLB that come with that life - just want to capitalize on the title to maximize exit opps.
2nd year director. Until then it’s just about perfecting your skill set and delivery mechanics.
IMO, when you get there, you may end up appreciating the selling/relationships part of the job. Don’t make your decision on what you think you would or wouldn’t enjoy 10 years from now. The relationship part, for me is the best part (wasn’t before). It’s mostly because it’s gratifying seeing how others value the skills you bring to the table and what value you can deliver with them.
I know several people on the MC side with the same preferences. If you find any overlap with a team, you can transfer there and stay a SM for as long as you’d like. Can’t do that at s& because of up or out. Otherwise if you’re looking to leave, wait until you’re a D1 then leave (better opportunities with the title)

I wouldn’t write it off yet. I used to be super against selling, but it isn’t really ‘selling’. For me, it is having interesting conversations with the client. I used to think this was a BS way to describe it, but I have found it to be true.
The relationship changes from you being a workhorse to you being the person the client comes to for help (and to make themselves look better).
I sold a million dollars of projects in H2 last year, but I never did a sales pitch. A client that liked me just kept coming to me with sh*t they needed fixing. We worked out a way to fix it and gave them a price and a plan.
For S& you might be ok until SM. The role does involve some selling and relationship building but not as much as the next level, Director, which has revenues as the primary metric.
