I received a job offer a week ago. They came to me at the minimum salary range we discussed in my first phone screen, and I politely countered. Seemed like a very standard negotiation.

The recruiter just called today and told me the team decided to move in a different direction and gave me the impression they are no longer filling the role....

Did I do something wrong by countering their offer?

Is it misleading to just look at Total Compensation from a $ dollar value/ Total Compensation seems to be much more subjective than base salary in terms of its value. Some factors might be:

RSUs granted on dollar value or by # of shares & stock price trends
Vesting schedule
strike price on ISOs & delta between strike price and real market value

For instance, most of value in Amazon's comp seems to be granted in years 3 & 4, but it's well known that most people last only 2 years max there.
