I recently went through a process where the initial interviews moved quickly and seemed very positive, but then there were long gaps between follow-ups and decisions. By the time the company reengaged, my interest had already cooled a bit and I had decided to not move forward with them. But I am still wondering what usually causes these delays in legal hiring? And do companies underestimate how much momentum and candidate interest can fade during a slow process?

Yes, I guess so. But this process took over 5 months now and things changes a bit in my life over these time

I disagree with A1. Most likely reasons are they got too busy to interview, they got less busy and decided to see if they could go it alone, the gc got into a pissing contest with someone and finally won, the principals changed, people went on vacation, business went through a hiccup, and a bunch of other things. This wasn’t an effort to make you comfortable; it was an effort to fill a business need.

Is that a compliment? I’m old and do not use ai.

Next week I’m having my first lateral interview as a junior associate. I’m very nervous because the group with whom I’m interviewing works with life science/tech clients and the attorneys have strong science/tech backgrounds; and I do not. However, I am very, very interested in transitioning to this practice. And I reaaally want this job because it’s at my dream firm. How would you recommend preparing for the lateral interview?

For a writing sample: Is it better to use a motion that you won, or a motion that may reflect better writing/analysis, but that you lost? Does your answer change if the winning motion is more recent than the losing one?
