I know most of the questions here will be on sexism or inclusion of POC but can we talk about ageism? Once we reach a certain age should we just leave the agency business? Is that fair?

Ahem—as a 40+ woman of color, I would love to talk ageism. No, please do not just leave the business. Make your voice known, which I know is not easy, but absolutely necessary. In addition to the spending power of the 'seasoned’ consumer demographic, having a spectrum of ages represented at the table provides valuable insight and varying perspectives—thereby providing a better service to our clients. Spoken from a few gray hairs myself...

🙌🏽 love this question! Speaking (age-wise) as one of the “younger” CDs out there, I actually found the best leader I’ve ever worked with to be “older” and hate to see how this industry shades the brilliance due to age. So much to learn!

I am an 40+ female creative. I’ve not made it to the ranks of CD or beyond (by choice and also not by choice) and I truly worry that I’ll be put out to pasture. And in all honesty, right now Is when I feel the best about my creativity and most useful as a leader. My fear is that since I didn’t get higher up the ladder earlier on, I’m just seen as an aging creative who couldn’t hack it.

like

@CD1 I feel ya. In the paperless society that we’ve become a lot of times all you’re judged by at first is the what you input into the application platform. In the event you make it past that phase, judgements often get made on why your progress took the form it did. When you get a certain age, it quickly becomes exactly what you said.

CD 1. Thanks. As an older worker I offer and work at imparting my years on younger colleagues. Some are receptive. My first job as a producer was 1989. I’m still here in a different capacity, but workin’ it!

@ACD1 I hear you. As a middle-management, yet older account person I fear the same thing. I love my job, love mentoring and am in the prime of my client management skills but feel that others see me as too old for my title. Eventually there will be a lay-off and those of us over 40 (45 in my case) will be the first ones shown the door.

Looking for some advice on a couple of offers I have.

The first offer is for an Account Executive position at a smaller company with a base of $50k and another $20k in OTE.

The second offer is for a BDR position at a larger and faster growing company with a base of $60k and another $20k in OTE. Also some stock options but they aren’t public yet.

I have 2 YOE as a BDR and think I could succeed in either position. Both have hybrid work set ups. Any thoughts or advice is appreciated! Thanks.
