So one place said, “oh my god we love you get in here and play!!!” And another place was like, “eeeeh, maybe you’re good enough, but we wanna see if our first choice turns us down so we’re gonna stall on you for a while…”
And you still think you love the stalling (maybe toxic place) more? Whatever looks super sparkly on the outside usually isn’t so sparkly on the inside.
A few weeks later, company B gets back to me to move me forward and I am told I am the preferred candidate. At this point, I’ve now begun my role at company A. I’m strongly conflicted now as I do not want to burn a bridge and I have no qualms with working at company A, but company B would have been my preference had they moved at the same speed on hiring (and feels to be a better fit for my career aspirations moving forward).
What would you do?
Get a minimum one year contract in place that voids at will termination if you go with company B. Let them know you are leaving a solidified contract and need the assurance. If they can’t offer it, I would be careful.
Slow to hire = quick to fire if not “perfect” in my experience. Bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
