I used Hungry Root for a long time and really liked it. I still ended up wasting food and its $$$. But I ate healthier!
1. You’re not alone. Most of us struggle with this one way or another!
2. Lean into how our brains work - think, going down rabbit holes, obsessing over one thing for a week then moving on, the compulsive need to snack…
How will those things help?
2A. Choose 1 meal and 1 snack for each week-ish (start on whatever day - doesn’t matter). *Make sure both have a lot of protein.*
Make a massive batch of both, eat the same thing all week. For a bonus, find a protein shake (premixed) that you like and keep it in the fridge so it’s grab and go.
Have the big meal after your meds wear off (dinner-ish), 1 or 2 of the “snacks”, and a shake per day.
2B. If you’re still into it, repeat the same massive meal & snack again the next week. Otherwise, you only have to choose 1 or 2 things for the next week. Wayyyy less overwhelm.
2C. Leftovers last 4 days in fridge, longer if you immediately freeze after making. Pack into portion containers (disposable takeout or deli containers even so no dishes) right away so it’s grab and go from your own fridge/freezer.
3. If this is still too much, look into promos from Factor etc where the meals are completely ready to go. It’ll still be cheaper than takeout.
4. If you do something like this 60%+ of the time, don’t be hard on yourself for buying out the rest - you’d still be doing way better than before! If you’re making big batches and letting them spoil because you’re still ordering out, then be hard on yourself 😉
I have a TON of these recipes and brands for quick foods that are complete nutrition and satisfy the dopamine boost, and snacks and breakfast ideas that are super quick so I’m not staring in the full fridge thinking there’s nothing to eat. (I have gluten and dairy allergies, my spouse does not, so I have plenty of recipes & plans for both, and meat-free for the weeks when I can’t stomach it.)
Send me a DM if you want to chat more / motivate each other! (Other bowl members, feel free to DM me too if this would help you!)
What is working for me now and I am actually saving money. Been shopping at Trader Joe's. It works cause there is more portion control -like you can't buy giant portions of something and then the food goes bad. Ready-made frozen food is easy and most of the time comes broken down into portions. The refrigerated salads, soups, etc., are also easy. It works great with the ADHD brain that likes to discover new tastes as well. I hope that helps.
Feel you. I take my meds first thing in the morning and it nukes my appetite until like 9 PM. And then I'm way too hungry to want to spend time cooking, so I just order something on Uber Eats. I need to just suck it up and start meal prepping again. I was in such better shape when I was forcing myself to eat 5 balanced meals a day.
