Yes. The crash made me stop taking Adderall and try something else.
Yeah.. I just don’t know if it’s that Adderall or my natural state. I learned to be calm because my dog has fear of men & is very anxious, but since taking Adderall I’ve had 2 bad outbursts of irritability/anger followed by crying & urges of self harm which I haven’t had since college over 5.5 years ago.. then I fight the urge & a few minutes later back to my mute, chill neutral mood or I just sleep. It’s been rough & debating if I need to switch from Adderall or get different depression medicine. My parents called out my depression & I felt I wasn’t sad or happy, somewhere between & that meant I’m not depressed, they told me it’s a silent killer & it’s sometime not seen, now I think they’re right because what I feel now.. just ain’t right. I’m a quiet person, went from trying to be center of attention in high school & college to more to myself, calm after college & genuinely an observer of my friend, work & family groups. I don’t talk much, it’s just who I am now, but I’ve been oddly quiet & avoidant of convos & interactions altogether with Adderall. Feeling kind of defeated because it does help my productivity, it’s just killing my mood once it cuts off, I also drink like 4 20oz cups of coffee a day so it could be that too.. maybe
I don't have that on Adderall but I had it on Ritalin. When I tell you I would CRASH out. It was like I was super exhausted and emotional because I was so tired but the tiredness came on when the medicine wore off.
Crash out every day on Vyvanse.
I’m convinced that the v in vyvanse stands for ‘Violence’…if I’m ever caught cathartically scream singing along to ‘love the way you lie’ by Eminem ft Rihanna it’s because of Vyvanse.
And it didn’t even remedy my adhd.. it made me rampage like 2009 vma Kanye so ofc nothing productive was accomplished. With that said, I give my Vyvanse experience 4/5 stars, bc I lost like 30lbs…
I’ve had this and it was one of the main reasons I stopped taking adderall. I had so much success with work and my graduate program while on it but I didn’t feel like it was worth my outbursts and constant irritability.
I’ve been off any/all ADHD meds since 2018 but was recently put on a nonstimulant Strattera. I’m on the lowest dose and am being worked up to a higher dose.
Good luck with your situation, it was tough for me.
It’s so crazy how different people react to these meds .. I hope the Strattera works for you, that was the fist med I tried, it was worse than this Adderall crash issue. I think my issue is.. even without the Adderall or ADHD meds I have these issue because like ADHD meds are suppose to help so on the I have the crash, without them I’m depressed because well adhd symptoms I can’t control. I guess I’ll just see what my doctor thinks, maybe I need to remove the Wellbutrin & do a different depression med.. on methphenidate I had no crash or issue, well on very low occasions I had it just I hit the max dose & needed coffee to even think/feel it’d help. The journey to finding the right stuff for your body is definitely a rough one, I wish you luck in finding your right medicine!
I take the extended release in the morning and then after lunch take a smaller dose of the immediate release, and that has helped with the crash!
Yes. It's common. You can try a higher dose, taking it later, or a different drug. Good luck.
FWIW, I take extended release methylphenidate (Concerta) in the morning, then a small dose of immediate release methylphenidate (Ritalin) in the early afternoon to stave off the crash. I time the second dose to be as late as possible without interfering with sleep. I'm usually asleep around 930pm, so I take my dose around 2pm.
Many providers will prescribe you a “booster” dose that you can take around noon or early afternoon to help with this.
I definitely had a bad crashout with Adderall and an even worse experience with Ritalin. I'm having a better experience with Vyvanse. (Downfall is that it's more expensive)
I find that my dosage, along with my Wellbutrin dose, works well for me. Keep looking for what works for your system. Also, consider trying to implement something that helps burn off some of that energy at night, like a quick 20-30 minute jog, gym session, or workout/yoga at home. Don't give up! 💪🏽
With vyvanse going generic, have you seen a decrease in cost? If not, could you try going back to name brand and using the mfg discount program?
Yes, major crash and irritability and sadness, etc. I work in sleep medicine and so I prescribe a ton of stimulants for narcolepsy, idiopathic hypersomnia, etc. I have experienced this with Adderall as well. One thing I have found that helps tremendously is to get off of the XR and go to IR. The XR never lasts as long as intended and you need more control over your dosing. For example, if I prescribe a patient Adderall 30 mg twice a day, I tell them to space it out however it works best for them. Often I have patients split their Adderall into 3 or 4 doses. So for example, 30 mg in the morning, 15 mg at lunch, and 15 mg around 3 pm as long as it doesn’t disrupt their sleep. Everyone’s schedule is different. Another thing I do is to prescribe a low dose of long acting along with immediate release to use as needed for rescue dosing. Like they make take XR in the morning, and then around 1 or 2 take an IR, and this helps so with avoiding that crash. I literally have some people prescribed Adderall 20 mg twice a day, and they take 5 mg every 2 hours because the 20 mg are scored 4 ways. The 30 mg are scored two ways so not quite as many options. Everyone is different and XR just doesn’t allow you to have enough control over spacing the dosing the way that works best for you and your schedule. I hope this helps!
