There’s always been a group like this. 15 years ago in b-school there were people who would practice 60-80 hours on cases. If you need that much time to prep this isn’t for you.

Yep @ VP1
Improvement plateaus pretty hard after the billionth case...

It’s worth it to be selective and true that if your skill/experience mismatch is too high it doesn’t help anyone, but that’s ridiculous

"Real" cases sounds dumb.
Basic/advanced cases also I dislike, except maybe if someone is trying to improve quant part they'd want cases with challenging quant
Beginner/advanced candidate split is actually quite reasonable; if you've got an interview coming up in a week, you'll want a case partner who knows what they're doing and who can actually somewhat simulate an interviewer. When i was a beginner i was a disaster and 100% was probably net value negative for my case partner, but 2 cases in he taught me the ropes and i was actually able to help him.
Firm-specific cases also reasonable - I think I've only ever done 1 BCG style interviewee-led case in my life and even though i was good at casing by then, i was a disaster.

Yea you're right
They do not want to spend time teaching or reviewing what they already know.
What resources are you using to prepare for case interviews?

Nothing you can help or fix here
I think cases are important for folks who are technical in nature and as a weeder for tier 1 firms (MBB).
At a big 4 I think they’re irrelevant
