Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

With a mind set like this you will never be happy. If your counter offer brought you near or more what you are making right now you are in a great shape. Should have, could have mind set needs to go
I always have a range in my mind and always let the company give the first number.I remember years ago, I was interviewing at this consulting job. The interviews went well and one of the managers I thought was looking out for me. Well the HR lady was something else to say the least but at the end, I was about 20k off. The manager was testing my negotiation skills because the VP said give her what she wants. We talk a great deal about women getting paid less but it's mostly women in HR umm..
Yikes, I would bet you missed out on another 10k, maybe 15k. Because I've never heard of a hiring manager jumping on an offer like that
Knowing percentages would help here. How much was the initial offer?
They might have just really wanted you, and had a preapproved range. In that case, no need to think, and no way to know where in the range you were.
I wouldn't worry too much. At this point, it would be risky to negotiate again. In the future, you might get a better sense of your value by creating a job-matching matrix, a document arranging the job requirements/qualifications with your relevant experience. The job-matching matrix is a very helpful tool for negotiation because it can help you determine how you meet and/or exceed the requirements of the job. I hope this helps!
You should be "negotiating from the front" as they refer to winning strategies. The comment made earlier, "you'll never be satisfied" is right! This would be a one up strategy, and the house usually wins, this tactic. Know what you want (need) because you have more information, or correct data on the industry role, and what your planning tells you. You're confidence should sell this through with your value proposition.
You made the counter offer, go with it. if you keep doubting yourself you will never succeed at the job your time will be evolving about what could have been, you got 10000 grand above what you were asking, don’t play into what you thought you heard about well she was quick to say yes. Take what you have and look at the bright side ,you got the job focus on that my friend because you never know what tomorrow may bring.
You did great, start slowly, upgrade your work, gain some trust, and more salary increase are going to come.

Honestly, I think that way too sometimes. But maybe you can negotiate in the near future, once you think they can see what you bring!
Don’t be greedy. If you’ve done the research and if roles for candidates are paying within the range you received and asked for, say thank you and get to work. She might have said yes readily because she knew that what you asked her was within her wiggle room and she thought you were worth it. Asking for even more may not work the same
