Pizza party all the way!!
Jk…
I forget which company just experimented with this but they called it the 333. Every day at 3pm, you step outside the office with at least 3 of your colleagues, each with a $30 budget to grab food or whatever. This gives the flexibility to employees and allows for employee engagement on their “own terms”. Budget needs to be there though. I think this company did every day but could suggest once or twice weekly.
I would also suggest putting together a culture committee that can help you with this so it’s more collaborative and doesn’t all fall on you, unless it’s something you don’t mind.
Time to ask if we have any budget for this. A lot of the team don't drink, but I was thinking going out for Thai food
Time reserved to go on a walk if you’d like
Seconding the trivia contest! I do that for my team every month and make it themed (ex. holiday themed, travel themed for the summer.) Sometimes I’ll make up an arbitrary award and use DALL-E to make a virtual trophy to up the stakes since I have no budget for real prizes.
I also host monthly chats where we go around answering a question like “What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?”, “What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?”, “Who’s the most famous person you’ve met?” I share the question a day in advance so people can decide whether to come and think about their answer. I’m usually surprised by how many folks do show up, and it’s a nice way to get to know people.
Last idea, if you do have a budget, would be to do an arts and crafts activity. We did a “paint and pint” night for our holiday party and it was my favorite corporate event.
Thanks for the great advice, everyone! Used ChatGPT to generate a long list of trivia questions and I've edited and narrowed down to some pretty good ones I tried out on my groupchat. Looking forward to my Alex trebek era
Is this just for your team, or for the full office? It’s odd to me that this was thrown onto your list of responsibilities if it’s for the full office.
That said, do you have a budget, or are you expected to do something with nothing? My personal favorite free bonding activity is what I call Subjective Trivia, where I pull together 10-15 heavily opinion-based questions and award points based on vibes (e.g. what’s the best Easter candy with the correct answer being Peeps or some other maligned treat). It’s SO low stakes and usually starts lighthearted arguments with people, and the crappier the deck, the funnier it is.
Just my team, so about 15 people altogether. I like the trivia idea!
