I was only at my last consulting job (gov contractor) for 8 months before being let go due to shifting priorities and reduced resources at my firm, following DOGE-related policy cuts. I was offered a chance to find another internal contract but couldn’t. On my resume, should I add a brief note or asterisk under the job title to explain the short tenure and avoid potential negative recruiter bias towards short stints? Or is it better to leave it unaddressed and let my resume speak for itself?

Let your resume speak for itself and explain during an interview. You could also add (Contract) after the Project or company heading you’re using e.g. Booz Allen (Contract) - job description etc etc
