I was recently fired from one of the top banks in the country. My performance reviews were all favorable. My attendance and punctuality were impeccable. My productivity on the team met all the standards.

My 25 year career was ended, SOLELY, for failing a few of those internal fake phishing emails from cyber security within 24 mos. That’s it. Not real phishing emails or malware. Just the test ones. Has anyone else heard of this? Am I the only one?

I don’t think that logically would make sense. You have been there for 25 years. It sounds like they are trying to get rid of the folks who are the senior leaders at a time where they may be able to get two employees with your salary. It had nothing to do with fishing email. There’s another opportunity for you. You should be proud of your accomplishments (your tenure is longer than most marriages) and remember the good times.

like

I appreciate the responses. They changed their phishing/corrective policy in May to retroactively grandfather-in previous fails going back 24-mos. They reduced maximum fails from 4 to 3. So I was immediately on a written warning as soon as the new policy rolled out. Then I apparently failed another and was immediately dismissed. Given my 25-years and my age, 65, the punishment does not seem to fit the "crime".

like

Sure it's a liability but that's insane that they would fire you over one error. Or did you fail multiple phishing tests? If you failed quite a few, i could understand that a bit better. But this almost seems like they were just looking for a reason to scale back on payroll.

like

They needed an excuse to fire you, it looks like they didn't care. Sorry about that! Hope you can find something else better soon.

like

I am aware of someone getting sacked for that within my org. It is a liability in this day and age.

like

aI am sorry to hear that. Something similar happened to me at a job years ago. Made me feel like they just needed to cut someone and it ended up being me.

like

Sorry this happened to you. These days I think Banks are looking for any excuse to lay off well paid established employees

like

That’s actually crazy they would fire you over that. I thought the only consequence is that you have to take extra training.

like

Wow. Thats crazy

like

get a lawyer. retroactive is not legal. if you made an error , they must warn & train to correct/prevent.(not dismiss). possibly age discrimination if you can prove it. ( similar cases?)

Y’all. NO ONE KNOWS HOW MANY PEOPLE, AND WHO, WILL BE LAID OFF. The economy may bounce back next month or next year. It may get much worse or maybe we just sit stagnant before things improve. Firms may lay off a lot or maybe just super low performers. No one knows. Stop reading tea leaves and just work hard and try to save a bit more than usual. There’s nothing else you can do.

One of the primary aims of the criminal justice reform movement is to help ex-convicts re-enter the workforce by sealing criminal records, and making it more difficult for employers to judge applicants based on criminal history. The idea is that people are redeemable and capable of reform. Yet the same movement thoroughly enjoys getting people fired and publicly shaming them for making arguments they find “offensive”. A rapist is capable of reform, but not someone who makes a dumb tweet. Got it.

Hi all -
Sorry for the long rant, but could use advice or just encouragement.

Got laid off for the first time in my career 3 weeks ago. I have 10 years of PM experience (mostly ecommerce & experimentation). I was fortunate in the past to have had recruiters scout me directly so this is the first time in over a decade that I am applying to everything that I’m qualified for, mostly qualified for, and way over qualified for with zero leads. Only 3 interviews thus far that didn’t go forward.

Tech company lay offs….are they soon to be inevitable?!

There is lots of companies really taking a hit in the tech space. Is this something that people are nervous about? Many seem to still be having a hiring push but with the button falling (IMO this is still just start we have a long way to go to bottom out) will that halt and layoffs ensue? And if so, which depts do you think will get hit the hardest?

Anyone have insight to what the plan is at UpStart for example?

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?
