Do you not realize how crazy $10k on your wrist is to most people? Can be especially poor taste if your project involves some sort of cost cutting at your client.
I say this as collector with several expensive watches. Always a time and place.
Obviously has no idea what shit is like walking outside of mommas house and heading 5 minutes outside the bubble.

I’m just disappointed in the choice of a Sub. So many better choices out there than the entry level Rolex that everyone and their brother has.
"this has been my goal since I started working." Really, buying a watch has been your goal? Did you state that in your job interview? How about ending world hunger, or anything in between?
You’re working for KPMG, are relatively junior, and want to show up with a $15k watch to your client. Honest question: What’s the signal you want to send?
FTW!
This is why Rolex and luxury is stupid. It costs more, but tells the time just as well as a $10 watch
Simpleton take as you can apply this to literally anything
Respectfully, whoever told you this probably realizes you work for KPMG and owning a rolex (let alone wearing one to a client site, unless you’re a P) exhibits a poor sense of judgement.
Depends on the client situation. I don’t even know what a sub is, so go for it
Presumably it's fake, so just tell them that.

I agree.
If your dentist had a more expensive watch than you wouldn’t you wonder if he charged too much?
Expensive things also get noticed more in the South and Midwest.

OP gotcha. How about we say cosmetic dentistry
Out of touch man a sub is flexing, go with an omega or iwc if you want low profile flex
just go with an Apple Watch
Apply a bit of social tact and EQ. You should still have a professional and put together comportment, but time and place for certain statement pieces. My clients are financial services companies and I’m more comfortable wearing my luxury watches in a suit or blazer when at a Goldman Sachs, Neuberger Berman, PE shops, etc. offices (and it actually has sparked a conversation and help build rapport) vs. if I’m traveling to Malvern, PA or a Midwest bank and dressed down more to business casual with a much more modest watch.
this is so out of touch, tasteless, and lacking in basic empathy. "my desire to flash my dream watch, that costs 1/2 of your annual income, shouldn't bother you. be happy for me! (ME! ME! ME!)
the best advice I can offer ... "put yourself in someone else's shoes" seriously. try it. sit with it for 3 uninterrupted minutes
if more of us did that, we'd be better friends, partners, neighbors, in a better society. we'd be a better species
sorry no one cares about your watch
This happens a lot on client sites. Expensive watch… Wall St client OKAY Expensive watch Dayton Ohio BAD

What if your client is in a submarine
Senior partners in consulting firms consciously choose the basic economy cars when traveling to meet clients. You don’t want the client thinking we are paying these guys too much.
Strap on a Timex, drive a Civic, wear a cheap suit. That’s always been the rules for client site presence.
Avoiding lifestyle creep is the best way to become wealthy

I'm on your side. I don't see the problem. If you've worked hard, saved your money to buy something that brings you enjoyment then why not. Besides, there's 3 fake sub for every real one.
Subway subs make great work attire
I have a Sub, and I don’t wear it at client site.

I have several Rolexes and wear them all to the client site. No one’s ever said a word to me about them.

K1 I doubt anyone even notices the kind of watch I’m wearing. They aren’t flashy
Ehhh what is a basic sub? I didn't even realize we were talking about watches 🫠
To be fair, you'll want to read your client and act accordingly... perhaps your feedback came from your manager who recieved an offhand comment from the client? But if it's your peer... pleeease. 🙄 Stay mad, pray mad, die mad - stop hating😄😄😄
Meanwhile I’m here wondering what a sub is. Subway?
Rolex Submariner: Only the finest timepiece for the most discerning gentlemen and gentlewomen.
Dear OP, Can you start by explaining what a “basic sub” is?
