Most people (>50%) got into Harvard because of the legacy quota. When you have such intrusive thoughts, remind yourself you they likely got i to Harvard because of dad.
They are NOT the American dream.
Yep. And according to that review only a quarter of the legacies would have gotten in on their own merits when lookin at admission criteria.
Just wanna let you know that outside of higher Ed, consulting and big business, no one knows what Mckinsey is. Thats 80-95% of the world that would need him to repeat where he works 3 times for them to get it and theyd still just be like cool dude. To this day, if i ask my international family if theyve heard of any MBB, theyd say no, but if i ask if theyve heard of Deloitte theyd be like yeah. Obvs not making the case D is better than Mck, because it very very very much ISNT, but i am making the case that this whole status thing exists in a bubble. Dont sweat it.
If someone has to lean on either their title or where they went to school, best to avoid.
I don’t pay too much attention to school for the experienced hire but I do believe there is a stereotype or maybe the pride thing, I guess I probably will have a bit different first impression if someone is MIT or cal tech, but I pay attention to the schools just in some cases it’s nice to see some ppl from the same school I went to…
I’ve know some really awesome people at McK but unfortunately a fair number of people like the one you described. I’m guessing it’s frustrating for the (majority) of great people that work there

Of people I know across firms, it has the highest a-hole ratio for sure

Don’t worry OP, there are many, many of us state schoolers lurking around.
Went to a state school, since I started nobody really cares. I’ve moved up on pace with my peers from these schools

It shouldn’t matter. Was it an actual oversight? It is possible when someone is scatter brained, they may not recall or read right. What happened in the further stages of the interview?
Depending on if it was an actual aberration or not, you should have said the third time, that the school was mentioned on the resume. Or if he acted smart, ask squarely, “does it matter to you where I went to school?”
Meh. The interviewer sounds like a legacy admit, hence insecure about their own abilities. I'm a state university undergrad as well, and although the interviewer may have been a gating factor for you at the time, they have zero to do with your success now.
So how did it end with Doug Guggenheim?
State school gangggg
I wish I went to state school, I’d have less student loans
If the coolest thing about you, is the school you graduated you from………..you’re pretty lame
It is comical. I went to a state school for undergrad, a state school for my first masters and an “elite” T5 school for my second masters. The subject matter I would have received doing the masters at the state school is identical (considering they all draw from the same research - mostly). The ONLY difference was the level of engagement of the students. I find it amazing that people still weigh universities based on name considering the ubiquity of information. The only reason to weigh elite schools higher is that you have a higher likelihood to draw on a good network for sales. Beyond that, the individual competency of top state school students vs top target students is negligible. To discriminate is a joke and poor hiring.

Some people are weirdly proud of themselves for having gone to a top-2 undergrad.
He’s a complete weirdo OP
I went to an online school and Deloitte did that same thing to me. I’ll never forget it
People like that are only surrounded by other insufferable twats in their personal life. I assure you, your life is better
Forget this guy. Sorry it was somewhat traumatic to the point you still remember it, OP. Use the memory as fuel / energy (chip on shoulder). EOD you get the last laugh. He gets zero benefit from saying something like that.
I hated school growing up and didn’t even want to go to college (undiagnosed add). I ended up transferring from a known university to a tiny one that no one has heard of. On one hand, I’m proud of myself for graduating and doing it. On the other, I had no idea what school I picked would be something I had to come to terms with in the future.
Some people don’t even have to opportunity to go to college, some people hate forced learning. Why can’t we just be happy for the people that did it and got through it? Why at 30+ is this still an issue.
I guess some people only have that ‘clout’ to go by? It’s weird… I have even talked about it at length in therapy to try and get over the “guilt” of not going to a well-known college. It’s ridiculous, but I get where you are coming from completely
People need to get off their high horse and concentrate on the person and skills and not a school we picked as teenagers and/or what was best for us and our situations at the time (as teenagers…).
