Glad you aren't my doctor OP
Doctors have to constantly research, attend conferences, speak publicly, and interact with fat, smelly, rude, white trash people whose genitals they have to touch every day. That life is much harder than building out a nested if statement excel sheet. Get real
Go work at an insurance company, walk out the door at 4:30 every day.
+ dealing with dying people and their families is pretty tough. If you are like many on this app complaining about your supervisor saying “I like dresses” you should hear what people handcuffed to the bed say to female physicians.
3rd year of med school is way harder than consulting: 16h day then have to study for exams on top of that.
Though being a top doctor is probably much nicer than being a partner.
Do what you actually enjoy. Being a doctor would absolutely suck if you don’t enjoy it.
Lol what do you know any doctors? 2 years residency/slavery for 12-15 hours a day in stressful environments for 50-60k a year then it gets slightly better after that but no doctor has "work/life balance" until their forties.
Actuaries are pulling 200k+ by 30 and have no debt. Much more than most doctors
Being a good doctor requires sacrifice on your (and your family members') lives. Trust me. I'm a doctor turned consultant.
Being an actuary is probably a bit tougher than medical school but pays a bit more Similar amount of work. Toss up.
Outside of consulting I wouldn’t say 200k by 30 is all that common for actuaries. 150k by 30 with 40 hour weeks is pretty common though. I’m a consulting actuary too but see no reason to stay for too long due to the hours involved and the work being less interesting than industry work. I’ve seen both sides, industry is better, but pays less. Think of it this way: you could probably work an industry job for 40 hrs/week and get some part time gig paying $15/ hour and work evenings, and you’d be making the same as a consulting actuary for the same amount of hours.
Until you get sued for malpractice
Actuaries make more than doctors? Since when?
My bff is a Y2 resident and he’s miserable and considers quitting every day. Grass isn’t always greener bro
My wife, a first year resident works way harder than me and makes1/3 of what I do.
I also dated an actuary once and she had an amazing work life balance
Most Medical Doctors don’t make nearly as much as people think. It all depends on your specialty. Surgeons, radiologists, and anesthesiologists make 300k-500k or so, but allergists make around 150k.
It’s not all about money. To read people compare careers based on money makes it seem like you guys are all still in undergrad or 22 or something. You might find being an actuary boring as hell and regretting it while being a doctor very fulfilling even if making 60k less or whatever. Unless you all are talking about making millions of dollars (aka CEO) then in the long run not much of a difference
Why doesn’t he like it? I would love to be a doctor as well lol
Becoming a doctor is crazy hard. Wife is doctor. The competition never stops through med school and residency.
Actuaries can make bank.
